A Disappointing Thrillu

Reviewed by adarshthaware 6 / 10

A lethargic love story with forced comedy.

Introduction I loved the most in this film is Actress Aanandhi.Priyadarshi, who is balancing his career as both a comedian and a lead actor, now comes with Premante, a romantic comedy entertainer featuring Aanandhi as the heroine. The film carries the subtitle "Thill Praptirasthu." Released this Friday, does Premante have enough elements to engage the audience? Has it become another hit for Priyadarshi? Let's find out in this Premante Movie Review.Plot Summary Madhu Sudhan alias Madi (Priyadarshi) runs a small business with his friends to clear his father's debts and save their family home, which is under mortgage. Ramya (Aanandhi) dreams of a thrilling and exciting life after marriage. Both families start looking for suitable matches for them. Unexpectedly, Madi and Ramya meet at a wedding, and their matching opinions lead to their marriage. After the wedding, the story takes an unexpected turn. Does Ramya get the thrilling life she imagined? What new path does Madi choose to clear the family debts? How does Ramya react after learning about it? How do the couple handle their married life? Do they stay together? And how does Asha Merry (Suma) enter their lives? The rest of the story answers these questions.Analysis Premante tells the story of a couple who meet unexpectedly, get married, and discover new truths about each other as their life begins. The film focuses on understanding each other's flaws, adjusting, and moving forward in a relationship. The first half runs on a light, entertaining note with cute romance between Madi and Ramya, suspicions arising after their marriage, and the truth that follows. However, in the second half, the twist revealed by the heroine shocks both the audience and the hero, giving the impression of a fresh storyline. But several bank robbery scenes and other sequences stretch logic too far, weakening the narrative. The director fails to maintain the grip established in the beginning. Scenes involving Head Constable Asha Merry (Suma Kanakala) and CI Sampath (Vennela Kishore) are funny but resemble Jabardasth skits rather than cinematic sequences. Due to this, Suma's role doesn't leave much impact. Although the story idea is new, the director couldn't present it effectively.Performances Priyadarshi performs well as a middle-class youngster and as a husband. Aanandhi gets a role with scope for performance, and she does justice within her limits. Suma Kanakala's character feels more like a TV skit than a film role, offering no freshness. Vennela Kishore tries to generate laughs, while Hyper Aadi and Ram Prasad are underutilized.Outdated comedy punches appear in a few places. Director Navaneeth Sriram picks a good point but struggles to handle it well after the twists are revealed. Several scenes test the audience's patience, mainly due to missing emotional depth between the husband and wife.Technical Aspects Viswanath Reddy's cinematography adds vibrant color to each frame. Production values are decent. However, the lack of emotional depth and the uneven storytelling weaken the overall impact.Final Verdict In concept, Premante offers something new, but the weak narration and lack of emotion make the film feel dull by the time it reaches the screen.

The most romantic blend of funny, cute and authentic

I had to watch this movie to understand what I want rom-coms to be like.Let's start with the romance. It's the kind of romance that feels real, attainable and authentic. It's not just larger than life moments for the big screen. It feels like this could be someone's story. It feels so neighbourly, that I half believe that I know the couple in real life. I loved the chemistry that the leads actors had. It's not the kind of sexy chemistry that you see in Hollywood. It's a warm, fuzzy chemistry that makes me want to call my wife and tell her that I love her.Next up, the comedy. As every good rom-com should, this movie has very nice situational comedy. Good setups, great timing and delivery. The whole shabang. But more than that, it's a relatable type of funny, even in unrelatable settings. It's full of those typical Indian things that fill our days. It's got characters that seem like charicatures of the people I've seen and interacted with. And each character is quite cutely written. And here's what other rom-coms just don't have that Premante has in spades. The plot is not your conventional love > problem > situational comedy > love conquers problem. The plot is unpredictable and yet smooth. The premise is a fun one, and the plot flows smoothly from there, where nothing feels unnatural or unrealistic. And yet I didn't know exactly what was going to happen next. At the interval I found myself wondering what direction it would go in, and more eager to get back to the movie than I was to get snacks. And finally all those other things that matter to me. The acting was damn good. Nothing over the top or unnatural. All characters played out quite authentically. And I found myself being able to root for each main character, even though some are essentially pitted against each other. The cinematography was beautiful. Each scene was there for a good reason. All details added up to something or helped bring out a character's personality or something interesting about the setting. There were even a fair few scenes which had that professional photograph kind of quality, where you just want to pause and admire. And as a bonus, I quite liked the soundtrack. It will play in the background of my mind for the next few days.I can only imagine how much I might have enjoyed it if I understood Telugu and wasn't dependent on the subtitles.
