Pre-employment Training

This is only the second out of the four Prep & Landing specials I have seen but I am already sensing a pattern. It appears that Disney is trying to educate our future workforce by prepping them to land their first job. In The Snowball Protocol, Disney tackles issues such as accountability and interpersonal relationships in the workplace. They also discuss the importance of rules and the fact that these rules don't always apply to superiors. If this was their intent, then I say bravo as these are lessons I wish I had learned before entering the workforce.

What just happened?

I have been a rabid fan of all things "Prep & Landing" since its original ABC premiere in 2009, and will watch/listen to Dave Foley's voiceover work in anything. I rewatch the original film and its sequels every year, and they remain just as fresh, funny, and heartwarming as ever. But this film, while featuring the return of the three main voice actors, has none of the humor, heart, or festivity that was so inherent in those original films, and left me disappointed on so many levels. The script is abysmal, episodic in the wrong ways without any proper direction. While the ultimate message is a good one, it is buried in chaotic mess of seemingly random, directionless flashbacks, and rushed through in an ending that comes out of nowhere. The characters come off as cheap parodies of themselves rather than genuine articles, and the "humor" feels forced and unfunny. While the voice actors give good performances in spite of having so little to work with, I agree with other reviewers that something about the animation is off, especially with McGee, and is distracting and off-putting to watch. How a film 16 years old can look better than one that's brand new is beyond me, but they managed it here. While I wanted to love this film, there is nothing I can think of to recommend it except the return of the original voice actors. Unfunny, poorly written, not entertaining, and not particularly Christmassy, I'm sorry I wasted time watching this, and will not be putting it on my list of Christmas movies to rewatch. I'll just stick with the originals instead.
