A routine sequel with a similar plot and incidents to the first installment.

A mediocre sequel to the first installment in the series, which would later become one of the most successful horror franchises ever made. The direction fell to animator David Allen, who had provided the stop-motion puppet effects for the original Puppet Master (1989), this film, and other films in the series. This would be the only full-length feature film he would direct. The puppets return once again to hunt down paranormal investigators. Parapsychologists Carolyn Bramwell, her brother Patrick, and the flirtatious Lance and Wanda are sent to the hotel to investigate the strange murder of Megan Gallagher, whose brain was extracted by Blade. Thus, the puppets were originally manufactured by their creator, André Toulon. Now, Andre Toulon returns to life to help them kill and harvest brains to obtain more fluids that will allow them to live for another half century. When the group of inspectors arrives at the hotel, they only believe Alex Whitaker's stories and remain vigilant, but the dolls chase them one by one throughout the film to obtain their brains. When André (Steve Welles) sees Carolyn Bramwell (Elizabeth Maclellan), who resembles his deceased wife, Elsa, everything goes to hell. Along the way, the clairvoyants are harassed by the evil dolls. Their unholy creations control your life. They're back! No strings attached! The five killers are still alive... and they have a new friend! Killers of all sizes! A box of toys has become a gang of tiny terrors! This is no child's play... Evil comes in all sizes!A horror film from a cult series starring a group of homicidal, horrific, and disgusting puppets created by renowned stop-motion FX expert and creator Dave Allen, who also directs the film, while the script is written by the series' usual producer, Charles Band. The disjointed plot concerns several clairvoyants sent to investigate a hotel house where a puppet maker who they believe may have discovered the secret of life is located. As usual in the series, the plot unfolds at the iconic Bodega Bay Inn, where fantastic, dark, and bloody events occur, filled with viscera and gushing red blood. Thus, the puppets, on a rampage, turn the house into a lair filled with disgusting special effects. There is plenty of blood and gore everywhere, while the mediums scientists fight for supremacy. The cast is practically unknown to the general public; we miss some more well-known actors, even if they are the usual B-series performers. Therefore, it contains traditional stop-motion special effects, following in the footsteps of Ray Harryhausen. It also features a moving and captivating musical score by Richard Band, a regular composer for 'Full Moon' and 'Empire'. The impressive and majestic soundtrack is one of the film's greatest assets, although it is often the same throughout the series, so film connoisseurs will end up somewhat tired of it due to its repetitive nature. The film was professionally but irregularly directed by the late Dave Allen and produced by Full Moon Features, a B-movie production company owned by Albert Band. The latter was one of Hollywood's most prolific producers, beginning his career in the early 1950s and continuing the legacy with his son, the equally prolific producer and director Charles Band. Albert Band began financing several films during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and helped his son, Charles, form his own production company, 'Empire Pictures', in the early 1980s. Following the collapse of Empire Pictures in the early 90s, Band continued working with his son and helping bring a number of low and mid-budget films to the Hollywood screen or direct to video release. Albert Band directed a few westerns, such as: She Came to the Valley, Massacre at Grand Canyon, The Young Guns and The Tramplers in their prime. In addition, he made horror and science fiction, such as: Aliens Gone Wild, Prehysteria, Prehysteria 2, Robot War, Ghoulies II, Satan's Dog and all sorts of genres. While his son Charles Band has written/produced/directed many films, such as: The Creeps, Hideous, Dollman vs. Demonic Toys, Puppet Master, Crash and Burn, Trancers, Trancers II: The Return of Jack Deth, Dungeonmaster, Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn, Parasite, The Alchemist, and The Primevals. Rating for Revenge of the Dolls (Killer Dolls): 4.5/10. Recommended only for series completists.

An enjoyable sequel...

Well, if you enjoyed the 1989 "Puppet Master" movie from Full Moon Entertainment, then you will definitely also enjoy this 1990 sequel titled "Puppet Master II".I sat down here in 2023 to watch the 1990 movie "Puppet Master II" from director David Allen, as part of a "Puppet Master" movie marathon. I do remember having seen the movie once before, many years ago, but I have to admit that I had forgotten about the storyline.Writers Charles Band, David Pabian and David Schmoeller put together a rather enjoyable script for the movie, and it felt like a good sequel to the original movie, though they actually had little in common. But the movie proved to be entertaining, nonetheless. The acting performances in "Puppet Master II" were fair enough, though I was only familiar with actress Nita Talbot.Visually then you know what you are getting here, provided you have already seen the 1989 original "Puppet Master" movie. The stop-motion effects for the puppets, while cheesy and campy, does add a certain enjoyable charm to the movie. And I will say that the make-up effects on the zombified Andre Toulon was actually quite good.I enjoyed "Puppet Master II" as much as I enjoyed the original 1989 "Puppet Master" movie, so I was adequately entertained by this 1990 sequel. My rating of "Puppet Master II" lands on a five out of ten stars.
