a lot here to love

So obviously the original did not need a sequel. This is one of the better ones Though. It does that thing they like to do in these where a bunch of stuff that was popular is referenced and with few exceptions I and the packed theater responded really well to those, and most else. There were hardly any where it felt like they were merely checking boxes on a list. Enough different about dynamics and such. Giving Grace a sister leads Situations where the two are playing off each other in a way that we did not see the equivalent of in the first one. I appreciate that it would have been impossible and ultimately wouldn't have worked for it to be the case each time but I would definitely say that this is at its best when we are witnessing someone who has a personal relationship in one way or another directly to her or faith. A certain ex for example. While this gets to the hide and seek roughly as early it is longer and at the very start we have a scene with a lot of exposition that I was impressed they managed to make work. It is made more complicated which was simply necessary. I mean really what else were they going to do just have her try to marry someone else and it plays out basically the exact same? The new additions to the cast are amazing I especially love getting to see Sarah Michelle Gellar again which is all too rare for me these days. Everyone seems to be having the time of their life here including Elijah Wood who continues to be immensely watchable whenever he goes for a villain such as he also did in the first Sin City. There is an increase in blood and gore and personally I felt that they stopped just short of it becoming numbing which for example Jason X does not. Some have noted that it is not necessarily scary I would definitely say that the tension and suspense are incredible But overall I would say both of these are more thriller than horror. The satire is even better with some truly jaw dropping bits. I will never be able to not think of this movie whenever I listen to total eclipse of the Heart. This is also fairly dynamic. At first I was a tiny bit worried that there were too many characters but really there are close to the same number as the 2019 predecessor. And I think they made a very wise choice in making some of them come from different families so you also have the rivalry between them. Personally I doubt they will make another one of these and I am not sure that there's any concept that would really make sense for it but I would be happy to watch a spiritual successor and I'm definitely going to keep supporting Radio Silent. In closing Samara Weaving continues to prove why she is one of the best Scream Queens ever and i really admired how well she handles the situation with the Catherine Newton character who also slots in so well that years from now I might literally end up forgetting that she wasn't in the first film. 8/10.

Not needed yet really good

An unneeded sequel that proves to be as good as the first !After surviving one deadly game, Grace and her sister Faith must now outrun four rival families competing for a powerful throne - winner takes all.The movie is surprisingly well, not a total blow for blow of the first one but same premise with different antics. The acting all round was good and having Graces sister kept it feeling fresh. There were some nice surprises in the story, good kills, good tactics. The only thing that genuinely bothered me was the gun scenes, nobody shoots that bad and if you have a gun faced to the bad guy, SHOOT.Overall good movie, I say it will be the last, great ending, 8/10.

Unnecessary but still entertaining

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is a classic case of diminishing returns since this unnecessary sequel is content to repeat the exact same plot as the original at a bigger scale with less effective results, especially because of a newfound focus on increasingly convoluted lore. However it still manages to be bloody good fun in places, doesn't waste any time getting the new game going and reaches a satisfying conclusion which thankfully leaves no room for a potential third instalment.Samara Weaving is great by giving it her all once again as her character gets put through hell directly after surviving the first night and her relationship with a really good Kathryn Newton adds a decent amount of heart when they gradually warm to each other. There's a pretty big supporting cast here who are all totally game and definitely know how to play their entertainingly one note characters but Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy and Elijah Wood are the main highlights.Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett get things off to a strong start thanks to an extended take which bridges the gap between the two films and they consistently deliver solid sequences throughout the middle portion despite an undeservedly smug attitude in their execution. The commitment to loads of people spontaneously exploding is appreciated even if its getting stale by the end and the comedy rarely lands because it feels like the jokes are simply repeating themselves from last time.
