One of the weaker "Hannah Swensen" movies.

My wife and I have watched many of the Hannah Swensen mysteries and this one, to me, seems a bit weaker and more silly than the others. However, my wife commented to me, "They are all silly."But the real question is, does it entertain? And it does, a bit, but mostly in very silly ways.Alison Sweeney is, of course, Hannah Swensen and she acts a bit like a teenager. The reason, she has a keen interest in the handsome, single District Attorney and in his presence just can't hold it together. She keeps waiting for him to ask her out.The mystery here is twofold, a man has been arrested for several home burglaries and he is about to go to trial. But another burglary happens and Hannah wonders if it is a copycat and, if so, why?Second, a film crew is in and using Hannah's bakery as their set for a popular cooking show, the host is Connie Mack who, it turns out, can't really cook but was chosen for her screen presence. Then on day two of shooting they came in and find her young producer dead in the restaurant. Is this connected to the trial, or just random? So, as usual, Hannah and her friends look for clues and devise a plan to try to catch the new burglar in the act.Again, as a story and as a movie it isn't that good but it does have a bit of entertaining value. Especially if it is free, like we found it streaming on Peacock.(Trivia - Connie Mack, born in 1862, was an American professional baseball catcher, manager, and team owner. Mack holds records for the most wins, losses, ties, and games managed in Major League Baseball history. There once was a stadium in Philadelphia named after him.)

Boring

Glad to see Norman back. Seeing Hannah together with Norman and Chad makes it apparent that she should choose Norman. Chad the prosecutor always rescuing Hannah from crime scenes just doesn't work. And why is he always investigating these cases? That's not his job. I guess his thing is always grabbing the gun from the murderer. Another one where I figured out who it was but the mystery was a bit discombobulated. More Andrea and family, less Delores please. This series is way past its prime. Unfortunately, Hallmark succeeds by having viewers who are creatures of habit and want to see their favorite actors on screen regardless of quality. Alison Sweeney is savvy enough to know how to bank on that. I'll probably watch the next one and then might be done.

Is this about Hannah or her insane mother?

Reality bitesThe Cookie Jar is taken over by a baking show in Reality Bites: A Hannah Swenson Mystery from 2025 starring Allison Sweeney, Barbara Niven, Gabriel Hogan, and Victor Webster.A famous cook/baker, Connie Mack (April Telek) is bringing her popular reality show to town at the last minute, to be filmed at The Cookie Jar.It takes Hannah about five minutes to realize Connie can't bake, the real baker being Evan (Kurt Long), and that Connie's producer Hunt (Gavin Langelo) protects her image. One day, Hunt is found murder. Hannah learns that Evan wanted to be the producer, and that Hunt had an argument with someone before the murder. Also, his wife, who did not accompany him, can't be located.Given that the decision to bring the show to town was last minute and that Hunt was reading about a current high-profile trial, Hannah wonders if the two situations are connected.Allison Sweeney wrote this episode. It's apparent from interviews that she has a much higher opinion of the character Barbara Niven plays than the rest of us do.Niven is a wonderful actress and beautiful and glamorous to boot. But as Hannah's mother, her over the top performances have practically taken over the show. Sweeney and director Kevin Leslie are enabling her. She's a writer. She's a private detective. She's an actress. And she's ridiculously phony in all professions. How is anyone buying her conversations? She's great as Hannah's mother, encouraging her to dress better and date the DA. Can't she just be that? Also, is the reality show a cooking show or a baking show? Why are the terms interchangeable? The mystery was okay, and this series is more entertaining than many on Hallmark. If it's to continue, some reassessment is needed. Concentrate on Hannah, the mystery, the two men in her life, family dynamics, with her mother's delusions of grandeur to a minimum.
