Plot summary

To fulfill her grandma’s last wish to see her married, Tracey hires a man to play the role of her fiancé. But as their white lie snowballs into a fiasco, the couple’s roleplaying becomes so believable that what starts out as fake, may just be real love.

A predictable Hallmark rip off rom com that has a very similar plot

Rent A Groom is a 2023 romantic comedy starring Kylee Bush,Stafford Perry,Sherri Dahl and Kelsey Flower.The plot follows Tracy Westmoreland(Bush) a young woman who lives with her grandmother Maggie(Dahl) who was a romance novelist. Sadly Maggie's health is deteoriating and she wants Tracy to find a good man and get married. However Tracy blurts out that she is engaged to-be married to her grandmother who took a bad turn at a tea party.So Tracy decides to hire an actor named Rob Hollingsworth(Perry)to pose as her fiance in order to make her grandmother happy. But will the fake romance turn into a real life romance,and will Tracy's fake engagement be found out by one of her sleazy co-workers at work(Kelsey Flower).Overall it was pretty bad. The acting was sorta mediocre and the two main leads were so bland. I kinda knew the minute it started how it was going to end. Think of The Wedding Date with Debra Messing meets My Fake Fiancé with Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence and you pretty much get this film.

mills and boon

You could watch this with half an eye and not miss a thing. I didn't find the chemistry between the two leads believable, but in any case, like all these types of movies they only realise they both love each other 2 minutes from the end, and share a chaste kiss.The movie is like one of those cheap romantic novels, you know exactly what's going to happen - there's a "baddie" who tries to ruin everything and fails, of course. Plus the usual misunderstandings before true love conquers all.The acting wasn't bad, I liked her friend the best. The ex was creepy and the entire movie instantly forgettable.

Endorses manipulation

The grandma is playing the girl/woman so that her daughter gets engaged...in order that her granddaughter will be "happy ". Grandma is "cured".etc., and then the chaos ensues due to all the ubiquitous manipulations. Of course there is a romance, and I'm sure it works out all in the end, it's the nature of these types of movies. It harks of the Hallmark movie style, and I was surprised that it was NOT a Hallmark movie. Anyways, my main objection is that lying gets you where you want to go...and of course life will be happy ever after. How can any of that be a good thing? I could just be jaded...and if I've burst bubbles. My apologies.
