Another Awful Film Adaptation

"Return to Silent Hill" is a VERY loose adaptation of "Silent Hill 2," and the literal return of director Christophe Gans and SH2 composer Akira Yamaoka. I would typically write the summary here, but it's not worth it for what's arguably one of the worst video game adaptations ever made.I was excited for this because the first "Silent Hill" film is actually a good movie! It's not a great adaptation, but it being a good movie makes up for that. Here, that isn't true. Somehow, the effects are laughably bad and the sets make this feel like a cheap straight-to-streaming movie. The acting is either over-the-top or completely static, with no in-between, and the writing. Wow, the writing is insultingly stupid and a disservice to the games. There's no subtlety, no letting the audience speculate or mull over what's happening, especially since Gans' direction this time around feels like a 90s action thriller.I genuinely don't get how this ended up being as bad as it is, but I really hope someone else makes a new adaptation in a few years time.

Loved the first movie but this was so bad

Despite the mix review of the first movie released 20 years ago and not having played any more of the games, I loved the slow paced and story reveals bringing this unique atmosphere and protagonists into one amazing story and ending. Unfortunately the second movie has absolute no quality whatsoever. Weak unappealing boring story doesn't making much sense, poor acting, unambitious directing. Noting stands out, just spent 90 minutes watching at best a weak cinematic sequence of a game that would be... Leaving the spectator at the end as clueless as our main protagonist wth so many unanswered questions...

Very poor adaptation

I went into the movie really excited to see it, and I was completely disappointed. The film is a terrible adaptation compared to the video game; the characters aren't developed, the protagonist is very poorly written, as is the story. The plot is incomprehensible and very confusing for new viewers, since you practically have to be a fan of the video game to understand the movie. The only good thing was the atmosphere, which was very faithful to the video game. This movie is an insult to Silent Hill fans. The actors are poorly cast, and the characters bear no resemblance to those in the video game. Laura is a frightening character instead of being endearing, Eddie only makes a brief and insignificant appearance, and Angela is a completely different person. The backstory of none of the characters is explained. Maria's story is also very underdeveloped, and her introduction is poorly written. Please, if they make another movie, hire me!
