Plot summary

Bean Bandit and his partner Rally Vincent are couriers for hire - transporting clients and delivering goods in his custom sports car "Roadbuster" for a hefty price. But when they are hired to escort a kidnapped girl named Chelsea to her home, they don't realize they're being framed for kidnapping as their former clients Semmerling and Carrie plan their escape with Chelsea's father and the ransom money.

Shifts into gear and doesn't stop

I had never heard of this OVA, but when I saw the trailer I was immediately interested. This is a fast paced action comedy that is entertaining all the way through. Once the film gets going it doesn't slow down.The director Kenichi Sonoda got a lot of his influence for "Riding Bean" from American action films and American action movie heroes, which explains Bean's over the top character.I really enjoyed the hand drawn animation. It's some of the best I've seen for this era. The music in this movie is also great. The director traveled to USA specifically to produce music for this OVA project to fit the American setting of the film.If you're a fan of 80s and 90s action films or hand drawn anime I highly recommend this OVA movie. You will not be disappointed.

"I drive."

The main character needs more than a stun gun to the neck to wake up in the morning, and I thought that was a nice and efficient way of making him instantly relatable.Riding Bean is a fun blend of comedy and action that gets pretty bloody at times. Its plot revolves around a duo that's set up to take the fall for a kidnapping scheme, only they catch onto it and try to make their way out of the whole scenario, preferably with a large sum of cash that's also tied to it all.It's an excuse to have lots of car chases and over-the-top characters; I guess when the runtime clocks in at well under an hour, you kind of need everyone to be pretty simple character-wise, but it mostly works. It's a good way to spend some time, and never takes itself too seriously while never slowing down; it's pretty fun.
