Comically bad

Being a bit of a masochist apparently, I watch a lot of animal attack movies. Every once in awhile, one comes off as a decent film, but most range from bad to horrible, and sometimes unintentionally comical. This one falls into the horrible and unintentionally comical bucket. Every shark film cliche in the book is used, acting is either wooden or exaggerated, and the dialog is silly. Early on, the mom character describes the daughter as "about my height", and the daughter is about a foot shorter. Guess they just went with what was scripted rather than cast. Also, a lot of the filming takes place in the dark, I'd guess so they didn't have to show much detail in the shark attacks. Overall, maybe worth a look just for the unintentional laughs, but it's horrible as a shark attack film.

Horrible

Basic script, some wooden acting, poor CGI/stock footage of sharks. There is no feeling of suspense or dread in the movie.Obviously filmed on a defunct old vessel and then the exterior shots were mostly again CGI.These sorts of low budget films do best when they don't take things too seriously and throw in some humour or camp, but this is so po-faced throughout it's painful to watch.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of shark-themed movies proves to be questionable affairs, I still watch them. There is something alluring about sharks, so of course I watch the movies. But I have to admit that seeing The Asylum's logo on the screen sort of drained every hope of this actually being a great movie. But I still opted to carry on and give the movie a fair chance. The storyline in the movie was simplistic. Writer Ryan Ebert didn't exactly invent the wheel here. But hey, at least it was an okay enough script and storyline for what it was; I've seen far worse shark movies than this.Of the entire cast ensemble, I was only familiar with Michael Paré. The acting performances in the movie were okay, nothing outstanding or memorable, but okay for what it was.The effects in the movie were questionable, especial the CGI animated ship, and the CGI animated sharks. The movie made a lot of usage of stock footage of sharks, and it was just painstakingly obvious that it was stock footage of shark documentaries. My rating of director Mario N. Bonassin's 2025 movie "Shark Terror" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
