Six Days in August follows the events after the death of the Prophet Joseph Smith, focusing on the succession challenges that arose within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The film offers a compelling look at this pivotal moment in Church history, told largely through the perspective of Brigham Young and his relationship with the Prophet.I really enjoyed Paul Wuthrich's performance as the Prophet Joseph Smith, John Donovan Wilson brought real depth to Brigham Young, showing not only his leadership but also his humility, Dave Martinez (from The Book of Mormon videos) delivered a strong performance as well.I also appreciated learning more about Brigham Young - the film dove a little into his backstory, helping me understand him as a Prophet and a pioneer. That said, while I liked the film overall, I found myself wishing for more clarity by the end. The opening states it's "based on true events," but it never really distinguishes what's historically verified from what might have been dramatized. There also seemed to be a moment or two where the timeline of events felt slightly out of order, which made things a bit confusing at times - but nothing major or distracting.I think this movie will especially resonate with members of the Church, since much of its story relies on an existing understanding of Church history. For me, that familiarity made it meaningful - but for someone without that background, some of the context might be hard to follow.Still, Six Days in August stands as a reverent, well-acted portrayal of faith, leadership, and revelation during one of the most critical transitions in Church history.
