A Masterpiece of Time and Emotion

Yandi's creative direction shines in "Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan," a masterful expansion of the beloved series. The film, released in 2025, deeply enriches the intricate narrative, offering remarkable detail. Sheila Dara's portrayal of Sore is a standout, showcasing impressive character growth across multiple time loops. Despite its nearly two-hour runtime, the story feels incredibly dense and purposeful. This film deserves accolades for its compelling plot and Sheila Dara's powerful lead performance. The evocative scoring further elevates the emotional depth, making it a truly immersive experience.

Good, but need some improvement.

I think us Indonesian should stop glorifying this movie. There is a clear line between appreciation and glorification. From a reviewer standpoint we need to hold the status quo of rating movies, that is being objective and not bias. Many in social media and my close friends keep telling me that this movie is one of the best film they have seen and that this is PEAK or GOATED!My expectation was so high going into the theatre, but when I finished it I was full of a sour feeling. The pacing, sometimes unnatural script, useless scenes and the most major part THE SIDESPLOTS!The pacing in third act "Waktu" was already quick enough and the amount of useless scenes that does not bring anything to the table really annoys me.My main critic is the Jonathan "Father" subplot. This plot really does not do anything and what it does is only make the movie longer as a distraction to the main plot. The way that it was bringed up was also out of nowhere. Furthermore the way that Jon really just quits drinking and smoking due to seeing his father was really unrealistic.Besides all that I think that the movie is still one of the greatest new gen Indonesian movie. But it does not mean that it will be going in my top 10. But I still hope people does not see this review as all bad. I mean for Indonesia to be better in Film making, and I think this is a great and big step to do so. Hope Indonesian can bring films to an International audience one day!

The Best Indonesian Film I've Seen This Year

I'll admit, I didn't expect much at first. I'm usually skeptical about local Indonesian films. But this one honestly proved me wrong in the best way. The cinematography is simple yet beautiful, capturing real life without overdoing it, which makes it easy to connect emotionally. The editing is super clean too, every cut feels purposeful, keeping the timeloop storyline tight and engaging. You can tell a lot of thought went into the pacing and even the music, which perfectly amplifies each emotional beat.Sure, the beginning might feel a bit slow, and not everyone will have the patience for it. I saw someone on their phone during the opening scenes. But if you stick around, it really pays off. The story turns into a heartfelt, cross-time romance that feels genuine and touching. Sheila Dara shines as Sore, calm, strong, and mysterious while Dion Wiyoko gives Jonathan a grounded, emotional presence.Overall, *Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan* is a rare gem, a love story that feels both magical and real. Not perfect, but easily one of the most emotionally resonant Indonesian films I've seen in a while.
