It's good (I wrote this review in 2024)

Strange Darling was hyped up to me by quite a lot of people online saying that I really needed to see this as soon as possible because it might just be one of the best horror releases of the year.While it's more in the vein of a crime/thriller movie than any kind of deep horror, I completely agree that this was one of the better films of the year so far. Without going into spoiler territory, Willa Fitzgerald gives her absolute best performance to date alongside Kyle Gallner who continues to excel in the horror genre as a whole.There are quite a few elements from this which have definitely been seen before in some other movies, but for some reason this still feels extremely special in its own unique presentation straight from the opening scene all the way through to the end.It also might be one of the more beautifully shot films I've seen this year, paired with a really good soundtrack this one certainly lives up to the hype surrounding it.

Truth or a game

By jumping the story back and forth in time, Mulner invites audiences to have their own interpretations of the relationship between the Lady and the Devil. Like many toxic relationships, their relationship begins with a promise before it quickly deteriorates. With all the details we mentioned in the review of "Strange Darling" it seems that it is destined to become a cult horror film, a work that becomes more satisfying with each time it is watched.

Entertaining...but EXTREMELY overrated

I admit I was entertained for the duration of the film and the plot twist was fun....but it never feels like anything more than a B/C level 1990s Cinemax 2:00am type movie so the rave reviews are a bit puzzling to me. The actress who plays the main character is phenomenal though. She's completely electrifying and the final scene (I won't give anything away) her acting is award worthy. Maybe she won awards, I don't know, I've never heard of her before but she's good enough that I immediately googled her name as soon as it went off to see what I've missed. The woman is a phenomenal actress. Very entertaining film but the low budget is unfortunately a bit too obvious.
