A Touching Family Movie

The movie "Sugar" centers on a disease called type 1 diabetes, but what comes deeper than that is the family's love and daily courage surrounding the child. Looking at this movie thinking about our child, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of three and is growing healthy at 11, the story on the screen never felt like anyone else's business. The parents' eyes on measuring blood sugar, getting insulin, and worrying about sudden hypoglycemia were so familiar. The excessive amount of anxiety and caution seen by the parents in the movie shows that it is not a "conquest" but a way of loving the child naturally to protect him. The reason "Sugar" is impressive is that type 1 diabetes is not depicted only as an object of tragedy or overcoming. Children are sick, but they laugh at the same time, quarrel with friends, and grow up dreaming. Diabetes does not exist as everything in life, but as a part of life. This actually comes more authentic because it resembles the reality that a family member raising a type 1 diabetic child experiences every day. The most memorable scene was the attitude of the family who held the child's hand without saying anything rather than the moment the child asked, "Why is it only me?" The movie calmly shows the fact that accompaniment over explanation and continuous care over consolation are more powerful. The image overlaps with the face of the parents who pretended to be okay and smiled the day our child first received the injection. "Sugar" is a movie that tells the type 1 diabetes family that "you're not alone." And for those who are not familiar with diabetes, it is a story that can be fully sympathized with as a story of a family who lives faithfully every day. After all, this movie is not about disease, but about how love becomes routine. It was a movie that reminded me of the times my child grew up as brave as he is now, and the ordinary but special day to day that will continue.
