Lacklustre

I vaguely remember when this movie was in the theatres and, as I recall, it came and went in the area where I lived at the time without making much of an impact. One reason I'm guessing why the movie was made was because of the popularity of the song from which the film's title takes its name. While the theme has potential, it seemed like the writers didn't do a whole lot with it. Part of the disappointment for me is that some of the actors gave lacklustre performances, but, then, they're not given much to work with by the script. It's not the only movie based on this, or a similar, theme."Local Hero" (Peter Riegert and Burt Lancaster) came out 2 or 3 years later and the situation and characters are better-defined.Roughly a decade after TTJASI was released, there was the Australian movie "Spotswood", also known as "The Efficiency Expert". It stars Anthony Hopkins as well as Toni Collette and Russell Crowe in very early roles. The writing was better in this one and there was also some question as to how it was going to turn out.Even "Other People's Money" (Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck in one of his last roles) was better."Take This Job and Shove It" might have been better as a TV movie as it certainly comes across as if it was written for a network rather than the big screen.

I like it.

I don't know why I like this film. It might have to do with the fact that when I was a young kid I was in love with monster trucks. The sight of all that destruction was exactly what my 9 year old brain needed. This is a pretty terrible movie as it turns out, but it was fun at the time. Oh well, a guilty pleasure for me anyhow.
