Not too bad

The only thing that really bothered me was the unsteady camera. The story was good, acting was good, the shots were good. I'd see another movie by them. The main actress was very good and the music was also great. I also loved the way they used practical effects too and the location was great. Good job.

Baal. A young woman (Meg Clarke) searches for her brother in the wilds of Australia after the 'death' of their father. This 2023 Australian family horror tale from writer/director Joseph Sims-Dennett seems to be trying to create an evocative, atmospheric film of mood and feeling, and although it's visuals at times are not bad, it's a slow, restrained film, where not much happens, and it rather comes unstuck somewhat due to not really going anywhere. It also has the slight whiff of the amateur in both dialogue (with occasional audience titters) and it's 'fractured' back and forth narrative, and the audience may also feel that they are in the land of 'the god of lost souls'. Vaguely similar to the much better New Zealand film 'The Lost Tribe' (especially the ending), it's a film which shows that families are for keeps.

Insanely boring...

Right, well I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2024 horror movie "The Banished" here in 2025. I stumbled upon the movie by random luck, and given my love of all things horror and the fact that it was a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I had to watch it.Writer Joseph Sims-Dennett, whom also directed the movie, put together a rather slow paced narrative. And I was struggling to keep an interest in the movie, as there was nothing interesting happening for a very, very long time. And after 48 minutes of absolute dreadful boredom, I tossed the towel in the ring and gave up.One thing that definitely spoke well in favor of the movie, was the fact that I was not familiar with any of the cast members. I was had not seen any of the actors or actresses before in any other movies, and I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in the movie were okay, though you're not in for anything outstanding. This is without a doubt not a movie that that I would recommend any horror fan to go out and waste 95 minutes on watching. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to a second time and attempt to finish watching. It just simply wasn't the least bit entertaining or enjoyable. My rating of writer and director Joseph Sims-Dennett's 2024 movie "The Banished" lands on a generous one out of ten stars.
