It's a Pirate movie for goodness sake

I must admit I do not fully understand the bad reviews. Let's start off by stating the obvious, it's a dang pirate movie!!! How original can they make it, I mean a pirate, is a pirate, is a pirate; they are known for specific things. This movie does those things pretty darn well. If you started watching this movie hoping to find a new Jack Sparrow, you know nothing about what a pirate was.I get it the movie became predictable, but it did throw a few unexpected twists at you. Priyanka did a brilliant job, she carried the movie, but she was the focus of the entire movie so carrying the movie rested heavily on her shoulders. The other actors did great too. I watched because I'm a fan of Karl Urban, I thought he did a good job for what his character was.I thought the setting was gorgeous, the action was entertaining and done well. I never once thought to myself of that's a stunt double for sure, the fight scenes were seamless. The acting wasn't forced by anyone. For these reasons I gave 6 stars. It's not as terrible as some reviewers try to convince you it is. Watch it for it is, a pirate movie (not Jack Sparrow's version of a pirate) packed with action, fights, and blood. Now, let me say this I love Jack Sparrow, I have nothing against dear Jack, but Jack was not a "real pirate", for lack of a better term, he was brilliant in his own right so you cannot watch other pirate movies and try to compare them to him.So I suggest, take a chance, give it a go. You might be surprised. Let's now address the question, would I watch this movie again? My answer would be yes. Its a well done average movie. Nothing special, nothing outstanding, just good, simple entertainment. On to the next.

Simple, but Entertaining

"The Bluff" is one of those films that doesn't aim high but still manages to do its job fairly well. It's not profound, nor particularly ambitious, but it knows how to keep the audience engaged from start to finish. The plot is straightforward and doesn't try to be overly complex. There aren't many surprises, and the themes remain surface-level, yet the narrative flows smoothly enough to maintain interest. The pacing helps a lot; it moves at a steady rhythm that avoids long dull moments.Performances are solid. The cast carries the material competently, giving just enough credibility to make the story work. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing distracting either.Overall, "The Bluff" is quite entertaining for what it is. It may not leave a lasting impression or offer much depth, but it delivers a watchable and enjoyable experience.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA GOES ALL IN, BUT THE BLUFF LOSES ITS EDGE

The Bluff sells you pirates, revenge and survival in the Caribbean. What it really gives you is Priyanka Chopra fighting like her life depends on it... inside a film that doesn't fully know what it wants to be.Let's get this straight. Priyanka Chopra is the backbone of this movie. She doesn't phone it in. She bleeds into the role. Her action sequences feel raw and physical. No unnecessary slow motion hero shots. No exaggerated stunts. Just grounded, brutal choreography. Easily the strongest thing here. The action staging at times reminded me of John Wick. Close combat. Smart use of props. Tight spaces. You can feel the impact. The background score by Henry Jackman adds punch and urgency where needed. Cinematography by Greg Baldi gives us some genuinely good looking frames of the Caribbean. Karl Urban does fine as the antagonist. The supporting cast holds up.But here's the problem. The film starts with promise. Then somewhere in the second act, it just starts drifting. Instead of building tension through story, it keeps stacking action scenes. After a while, it becomes predictable. You've seen this structure before. It feels safe and formula driven. And for something promoted as a pirate film, the sea barely matters. There's an exciting sea battle early on, and then the ocean almost disappears. It shifts into a home invasion style thriller more than a pirate saga. Some action scenes are drowned in dark lighting and CGI, which makes it harder to follow what's actually happening. And those classic moments where characters pause to deliver monologues to the person they're about to kill. That kind of writing kills the intensity instantly. It's streaming on Amazon Prime Video. If you're in the mood for solid action and want to see Priyanka in full combat mode, go for it. Just walk in with low expectations.
