A Bounty Hunter on His Final Mission

With the Civil War now over, a former member of the Texas Militia named "Daniel" (Dylan Hobbs) becomes a bounty hunter to make money. With a legal warrant in hand, he rides into a nearly deserted town looking for an outlaw named "John Dooling" (Tom Zembrod) as his next target. Unfortunately, when he enters the saloon, the bartender "Tellie" (Whit Kunschik) cannot provide any helpful information. Surprisingly, her teenage nephew "Parker" (Bailey Roberts) is eager to help, since John Dooling killed both of his parents some time ago. Not eager to accept help from someone so young, Daniel turns to a former preacher named "Isaac" (Andy Anderson), who agrees to find John Dooling and deliver a message. The problem is, John Dooling is a ruthless outlaw who, once he hears what Daniel has to say, murders Isaac in cold blood and sends men to kill Daniel. What John Dooling doesn't realize is that Daniel is more than capable of defending himself, and that's when things get really violent. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say this was one of those low-budget Westerns that have seemed to multiply in the last 15 years or so, all sharing similar faults, with the acting, script, and action sequences being the most obvious. As far as this particular film was concerned, the action scenes weren't that plentiful, and much of the movie consisted of people talking bluntly or threatening one another. Be that as it may, although this wasn't a good Western by any means, it wasn't terribly bad either, and I have rated it accordingly.

One cliché after another.

I love westerns. I'm 67 years old, and I've most likely seen every western movie ever made at least once. Dusk to dawn westerns at the drive-in theater were the norm when I was a teenager. I grew up during the golden age of TV westerns like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Rawhide, and Wagon Train. I'm usually pretty open-minded when it comes to low budget movies such as this movie, however, watching this movie was painful. There was simply too much overacting going on throughout the entire movie. I don't blame the actors. It's totally obvious that the director is the one at fault here. No talented director would have ever allowed such overacting and cliché filled scenes. The faux The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly music at the end of the movie's climax made it even harder to take. Honestly, I'd love to see Dylan Hobbs in a movie written and directed by more talented individuals, but only after he's gotten some constructive criticism from experienced actors who have seen this movie.

Well, it had potential...

Writer and director Brett Bentman was on the right track here with the 2022 Western movie titled "The Bounty Men".However, while the storyline was interesting enough, it just felt that there was something lacking from it. The movie was a bit too mundane and slow paced, and sort of lulls you into a stupor. Writer Brett Bentman just didn't spruce up the storyline with enough events to make it a particularly thrilling or action-packed Western. A shame really, because there was certainly potential to the storyline. The movie have a relatively small cast ensemble, and it works out well enough because the actors and actresses are fair at portraying their characters on the screen. It was nice, though, to see Tom Zembrod in the movie. There is a good atmosphere to the movie, because it definitely felt like a Western movie. Nice sets, nice wardrobes, nice props and all that. However, one thing did puzzle me, and that was why no one caught the fact that they had reversed some of the footage, because as the Bounty Man was riding through the small town, the signs on the buildings were shown reversed. If you are a hardcore fan of the Western genre, then I believe there is something to be enjoyed here. I, however, am just a casual viewer visiting the Western genre once in a while, so I didn't find "The Bounty Men" to be a particularly outstanding movie. Sure, it was watchable, but it was a bit too uneventful and slow paced for my liking. So this is most likely a Western that will just slowly fade into the mists of oblivion and never come out to be seen a second time.My rating of "The Bounty Men" lands on a four out of ten stars, mostly because there just wasn't enough happening in the narrative to keep the movie all that enjoyable and entertaining.
