Plot summary

Diego has just been voted best young player in Europe and at the age of 20 he is on his way to making his team, Atlético de Madrid, champions of La Liga. But his impulsive and conflictive character makes the club, fed up with his excesses, hire Álex, a withdrawn and lonely psychology professor, to improve his behaviour. The two will have no choice but to learn to understand each other.

The Champion

A brilliant story but I feel like it was poorly executed. The idea of having this Spanish wonder kid, Diego, learn to control his behaviour and also overcome personal challenges such as his Dad and Agent having to much control over his career whilst balancing relationship issues is such a cool idea and inspiring for young Footballers however it fails to actually show Diego overcome these obstacles!I felt like I was enjoying the story and I felt like the Teacher, Alex was really getting on with Diego but then there's moments which don't make sense to me. Why would Alex not want to hang out with Diego to study him more? Why did the movie set up Alex to also have a character arc just for him to not have one and end up being pushed to a supporting character to Diego? The movies run time really makes things to short that I feel like the Writers couldn't include everyone learning their eventual lesson. The ending annoys me because we don't know if Diego scores or not to help Atletico Madrid win La Liga and we don't even know if his move to Manchester City went through or not! Rather than a complete movie we are left wondering what happens next, almost like there's going to be a Part 2?We don't see Diego overcome his dyslexia struggles and we don't see him change his environment of bad friends or even bad Agent. I thought Alex on the hand made some super questionable choices such as refusing to explain to Diego what was happening around him at the party with the Dad and Agent organising the move to Manchester City all behind his back, even the Club's Director's, Manager etc. Would have all been involved in such a huge transfer like that so it doesn't make sense that the movie didn't put some blame on them for not consulting Diego. Alex just regressed I think throughout the movie, he looked like he was going forward but eventually the choices he made started making him less like a "hero" that the movie portrays him to be. We don't even find out about what happened when he was drunk and supposedly slept with one of Diego's friends! There's so much unanswered questions in this movie.I thought the cinematography was meh, at times it looked more like a documentary than an actual movie for entertainment purposes. The lighting was far too bright and sometimes even far too dark. The sound, maybe it was my TV but the sound was too low and when I found myself turning the volume up then it was too loud! All I'll say is that the sound is very inconsistent throughout the movie. The soundtrack selection is so basic and doesn't feel like it matches the tone that the film is setting plus the Green Screen at times looked atrocious and like a fan-made project! It was quite underwhelming for a billion-dollar company like Netflix.Just very mediocre really, there's a story but it isn't told properly and doesn't feel complete. All the characters learn almost nothing and are made out to have learned from their mistakes but clearly don't! 5/10, bang average.

great movie terriable ending what a waste

Overall, the movie is good good acting overall good production value. Interesting story they could easily gone further with it. The biggest with this movie is that a hook you in it is slow pace, so it's not something wanna watch in the middle of the night otherwise you will fall asleep. However, the movie does grab you and when it grabs, you won't let go you root for the good guy, however you have no idea what happens to the bad guy. There are about five different stories going on at the same time and while the most important stories are upfront, there is no conclusion to any of the stories. Not sure if they were thinking, they'll make a sequel to this movie just to show you what happens after the fact, but the ending absolutely sucks , and this is the reason why can I get higher than a.
