Plot summary

When a terrified family flees a desolate southern New Zealand farmhouse, two cynical scientists and a young psychic are sent to investigate their claims of a haunting. There they encounter a powerful spirit that will protect the house's secrets at all costs.

A decent film except for the ending

Just about everything about this film is good. Good acting, camera- work, lighting, and so on.The only thing that let it down as far as I am concerned is the ending.Having built up the story (which was well written and well acted) and drawn the viewer into the events I was expecting more of an explanation through the final sequences of why they had happened.The ending felt rushed and perhaps edited a bit too much to keep the film within time.But apart from that, the film was enjoyable and certainly as good as similar films in the horror genre.

With a bigger budget it could have been better.

It's one of those horror movies with a lower budget because apart of the usual swinging chandeliers, slamming doors and flying objects you won't see much else. Not that it's necessary bad if there's nothing else to see. They just worked within their budget. With the right ambiance and sound you can still create some suspense and in The Dead Room there is definitely some suspense. The last fifteen minutes you get a bit more and it's a pity they didn't do more with that in the movie. The cast is okay. I don't know any of them, maybe they are known in Kiwi land but I never heard of them. The acting is not the greatest but it's fine. All in all for a low budget movie it's still decent to watch once.
