Social commentary on France, its bureaucracy and state institutions. Also, about an architect unable to compromise when institutions come in his way

Saw this at the film festival Ghent 2025, part of the section Artists on Film. Main course seems to be social commentary on France, its bureaucracy and its state institutions, the latter not always working together in the interest of the general public, often clinging to their independence regardless the case in question.A parallel story about an architect with grand ideas and attention for detail, who however is not prepared to compromise when institutions come in the way of his perceived end goal. Even when the French president is personally involved in the proceedings, it does not help in ironing away the obstacles. All in all, it covers many contemporary topics in one single story, keeping us interested from start to finish. As a final remark: I was glad that the Danish architect could speak French fluently. There were no silly misunderstandings on the linguistic level and no time lost on translations/interpreters.

Solid historical drama documentary

I went to sse this movie in the cinema, honestly not expecting much of it. But the movie suprised me. It's a slow paced historical drama documentary about the architect behind the famous Arche in Paris, France. The movie showcases the dilemmas and struggles between the artist and his team and the bureacracy surrounding the project. I felt like the ending was quite sudden and left me a little looped out, but overall this was a solid movie.

Would watch again

I hadn't expected to enjoy this movie as much as I did. I thought the cinematography was stunning and the acting superb. Even though it was a slow paced movie, i was never bored and only became more intrigued as it went on. I was a bit disappointed by the ending, but you of course can't totally change real life events. I also felt myself appreciate the process behind architecture more after watching and now have the sudden urge to go to Paris and see it for myself.
