Heartbreaking and topical

This Swedish movie is about the hard ways kids treat one another. It is heartfelt, heartbreaking, and lovely to watch. The adults are suitably cringe-worthy and the youths are suitably stupidly naive and fumbling. The movie is well acted and well directed, and while it is not a technical masterpiece it does not need to be to get its message across.

Not more than a good point

'Hip Hip Hora' is a Swedish movie with a good message - but it does not have what it takes to succeed into the viewers hearts. It reminds a whole lot of "Fucking Åmål", who is also a movie about the teenage youth, the search of who you really are and everything who comes with it. This piece feels like a wannabe piece of "Fucking Åmål", less attractive but with the same message bound into a different story with different characters. The worst thing is that I think the main actress really sucks, but instead all other actors around her do their job supreme, big up's for unknown actors who completes their task like this! In general, it felt like a Hollywood piece and I'm not going to see this one again. OK it's worth it's shot, it has a good message but it lacks that magic that makes us remember it.

Well-worth checking out...

Right, well I had actually never heard about this 2004 movie titled "Hip Hip Hora!", prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2026. And given the movie's synopsis and cover, I figured that it was probably some teenage drama. But since I had never heard about the movie, and thus obviously never seen it, I opted to give the movie a fair chance.Writer Teresa Fabik, whom also directed the movie, put together a rather hard-hitting script and storyline. It deals with some very realistic issues, that the audience easily can relate to. While it is not an uplifting narrative, it is still a well-written movie and entertaining in its own way. While the movie does aim at a late teen or young adult audience, there is something in the narrative that transcends age, as the writer does delve into some very real topics, that young adults struggle with. But also deals with the abusing behavior of taking a prank far beyond the boundaries of what is fun and games. The movie was listed as a comedy drama, so I thought there would be something funny here as well. But that was insanely misleading, because the movie's narrative does not have comedy elements in it. And the topics that writer and director Teresa Fabik brings to the screen most certainly are not matters to laugh at.Given my very limited exposure to the Swedish cinema, then I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, though I will say that the acting performances were fair.My rating of writer and director Teresa Fabik's 2004 movie "Hip Hip Hora!" lands on a six out of ten stars.
