Plot summary

One of those films with a strong message that ultimately misses the mark

I recently watched The Kill Hole (2012) on Tubi. The storyline follows a war veteran who's asked to track down a former comrade who has gone off the grid and now lives deep in the forest. He's hesitant at first but understands the shared trauma that's driving his friend's actions. Ultimately, he decides to find him-even though his friend doesn't want to be found.This picture is written and directed by Mischa Webley, in his only major directorial project, and stars Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tory Kittles (Colony), Billy Zane (Titanic), and Peter Greene (The Mask).The premise had potential, but the writing and execution felt average across the board. The characters' psychological struggles were handled authentically in parts, but overall, the film carried a "made-for-television" tone-from the performances and emotional depth to how the story unfolded. Aside from Chadwick Boseman's performance, very little stood out.In conclusion, The Kill Hole is one of those films with a strong message that ultimately misses the mark. I'd score it 4/10 and recommend skipping it.

Some interesting moments, but weak execution overall

THE KILL HOLE is an attempt to do something different to your usual American war flick. This one is more of a psychological thriller about the trauma felt by combat soldiers and their struggles to adapt to normal society afterwards. Unfortunately, it's a low budget movie and one that suffers from a lack of incident, decent writing, and strong characters. The first half an hour is very dull and the story only picks up a little once the main character goes on his mission.From there on in, weak execution lets the movie down. It should be very tense, moving, and dramatic, but it never is. I wasn't drawn into the tale despite the obvious merits it has. The unknown cast don't really bring the story alive either, other than Billy Zane who has been brought in for name value alone. Although THE KILL HOLE offers something a little different to your usual B-movie action flick, there's no denying it just isn't a very good film.
