Only Americans Act Like This

Only American viewers would not give this film a higher rating. Yes, Americans. Clueless. Without shame or accountability. This film moved at just the right pace. The cast did a superlative job of showing the orderly progress of reason, return of a hostage journalist, in the face of chaos. There is ample absurdity in the Italians who worked their own agendas behind the scenes because everyone wants credit and fame even if they have to lie and cheat to get it. This is a beautifully made and elegantly paced story, based on true events, of the kidnapping in Iran of an Italian journalist. The negotiations for her release were handled by the Negotiator. A gentle and charming mad, with a family. He does everything right. Behind the scenes there are the usual idiots and cowards who screw everything up as often as they can. This is an important story that deserves consideration. Ignore the exclusively American lower ratings. As the film shows very clearly, this is how American are. I am an American. An American Indian. Our people have seen the same problems as shown in this film, for many generations now. I moved to Italy twenty years ago. Those Indian incidents received the same clueless response as those American who rated this outstanding, beautifully acted true story. Emotional. Beautiful.

Il Nibbio, directed by Alessandro Tonda, undeniably deserves credit for honoring the sacrifice of General Nicola Calipari. The film's intent is noble, shedding light on a crucial chapter in Italian history, but it struggles to deliver a compelling cinematic experience. One of its main shortcomings lies in the lack of a well-developed narrative arc for the characters. The protagonists remain relatively flat, with little emotional or psychological growth, making it difficult for the audience to fully engage with their journey.Another notable flaw is the dialogue, which often feels overly contrived and excessively didactic. Instead of allowing the emotions and themes to emerge naturally, the script relies on heavy-handed exposition, which detracts from the film's dramatic impact. The result is a monotone narrative that, despite its inherently tragic subject matter, fails to evoke the depth of emotion it aspires to.That said, Il Nibbio does benefit from a relatively concise runtime of under two hours, which prevents it from becoming overwhelmingly tedious. While it may lack the nuance and narrative strength to make it truly memorable, the film ultimately succeeds in its primary goal: paying tribute to the memory of "Il Nibbio," the code name of General Calipari. Despite its flaws, it remains a respectful homage to an important figure in Italy's recent history, ensuring that his story is not forgotten.

A True Story of a Civil Hero

Some previous reviewers say that this film is predictable: but this is not a fantasy super-hero story, but the real story of a true man who sacrificed his life to save a journalist. For me it has been one of the most compelling and moving films of last years. It balances the action and suspense (knowing the real story I still felt the supense) with a warm depiction of the family life of the protagonist Nicola Calipari. It is all true, and this -besides the good acting and the good production- makes this film absolutely worth watching.
