A devastatingly honest and necessary documentary

Honesty, accountability, and the danger of believing you are doing goodThe Secret of Me is a remarkable documentary - not just because of what it reveals, but because of how unflinchingly honest it is about responsibility, intention, and harm.I clearly remember the David Reimer case and truly believed that chapter of medical history was long closed. This film makes it painfully clear that it wasn't. Old habits, protected by authority and certainty, linger far longer than we like to admit. There is no ambiguity when it comes to John Money. What he did - and what he defended - represents an abuse of power so profound that it should have carried lifelong legal consequences. This was not error; it was ideology imposed on vulnerable children without consent. What makes the film especially powerful, however, is its contrast with Richard G. Carter. Carter openly acknowledges that the surgeries he performed were mistakes. He genuinely believed in 1975 that he was helping. He was acting in good faith - and he was wrong. And that is the film's most important lesson.Human beings rarely commit great harm believing they are doing evil. Far more often, they believe they are doing good. They believe they are helping. And unless we remain relentlessly vigilant - questioning our motives, our incentives, and our desire for progress, status, or certainty - "helping" can quietly become a justification for irreversible damage. This documentary is essential not only for what it says about intersex history, but for what it teaches about humility, accountability, and the moral danger of unchecked certainty.A truly outstanding and necessary film.

Brave Powerfull Neccessary

Tbe main character is an inspiration. I'm glad they told this story, a huge story. Scandalous Sad yet somehow a wonderfull story of humans overcoming circumstances. I have not never understood, never been educated on the Intersex experience. Sadly it came down to tbis film to inform me, it has raised many more questions tbh, I will do more research going fwd. Thank goodness the whole of America is not conservative. Thankfully places like San Fran exist where humans can be judged on who they are. Not who you fear or misunderstand. Imagine the pain harrasment and dis rimination if they'd not left? For something they didnt chose and for surgery they hated. It's a sad world and USA has gone backwards in the last decade. Future Intersex kids, like Trans Kids will struggle to find a place in their own communities. Perhaps this film shd be played acoss the country?

Eye opening

Educated me on a subject I knew nothing about. Very moving and I'd like to congratulate everybody involved in the making of this documentary.Just when you think medical science is mordern and sophisticated you find out that barbaric practices continue to ruin lives.I hope more people see this...
