Sleepy Rating Scale 3/5- sitting in bed

"The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat" is a 2024 American drama, based on Edward Kelsey Moore's 2013 novel. The film follows three lifelong friends-Odette (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), Clarice (Uzo Aduba), and Barbara Jean (Sanaa Lathan)-nicknamed "The Supremes." Their bond, forged in the 1960s, endures through personal trials, societal challenges, and evolving life stages, with Earl's diner serving as their enduring gathering spot. The movie was like a well shot higher level Lifetime movie. It was sweet in parts and made me think of my closest girlfriends who always have my back. There were weird moments where the movie tried to be funny but I'm not sure it landed right. The movie didn't make me sleepy at all.

White Savior Complex

While I admired the acting in this film, I thing I struggled with the storyline for Barbara Jean. I didn't like the interracial relationship's setup as I felt it became a "white savior" complex. I think it sucked that Lester's killed off. We are left with only one redeeming black man in the film which is Odette's husband James. I didn't like the ambiguity of Clarice's relationship with Richmond at the end. Barbara Jean's son's murder was devastating. The young actress who played her did a fantastic job. The death scene made me sick to my stomach. However, I'm glad the murderer got his "come upping."
