At Least Nearby

A children's film that taps into contemporary themes and the spirit of the time (2019). The story of friendship, displacement, and new beginnings is told through two boys - a village kid forced to move because of open-pit mining, and a Syrian refugee who also had to leave everything behind. This parallel works well as a message and gives the film educational weight.The direction is solid, though at times almost too polished and nice: the tone stays friendly, conflicts resolve quickly, and genuine tension is rare. Still, the understated visuals, sweet party scenes, and authentic performances stand out. In the end, it's a typical issue-driven children's film: morally right, sympathetically acted, but more message than cinematic experience.

Pretty good for a German movie

Too far away is a pretty good German movie. This reminds me of ABC/ ABC 3 shows from Australia. I gave this a six because it's not the best movie but had some exciting plot points.
