Quick summary of the book

To short to do the book justice

Actually, I liked this adaptation. I thought the acting was good and convincing. But it was much to short to do the book justice. It's a long book, and a lot of it is flashbacks to the previous life of the two protagonists. These flashbacks are completely missing from this adaptation which means a massive part of the book is just lost. Some important characters, like Joannes father, just don't appear. Although we do learn that Joanne had a child and that he died, we learn really almost nothing him. We don't learn why the book is titled "Tout le bleu du ciel". We don't learn what moved Joanne to answer Emile's advertisement. The ending of the book where Joanne finally talks to Emile's sister is missing although, in my memory, that meeting was critical to the emotional arc of the story. I remember "Tout le bleu du ciel" as a really extraordinary book, but this is just a nice adaption. To do it justice would have required at least six, if not ten episodes.
