A film that left me very much

I rarely write reviews, but this film impressed me so much that I felt the need to do so. It is a film that, in the garb of science fiction, touches on many other themes. It does so while wringing both smiles and tears. Declared pacifist, despite the fact that it deals with the end of the world, it leaves a kind of faint hope, on the fate of the human race, on love relationships and also on those that bind us with so-called artificial intelligences. There are many tributes, from Kubrick to Ridley Scott via Christopher Nolan. Kudos to the male lead, who almost single-handedly held up the entire length of the film admirably. In short, I really recommend this film.

Imperfect but Sincere

Ukrainian cinema continues to search for its own voice in complex genres, and Ty - Kosmos became one of those premieres that unexpectedly caught my attention. I didn't have high expectations, but the strong audience rating after the premiere convinced me to go to the theater anyway. The result turned out to be far more interesting than I had assumed. One of the film's most striking features was the abundance of profanity. At certain moments it felt organic and amplified the drama, but in many scenes it seemed excessive and resembled a familiar template typical of modern Ukrainian series and films. Because of this, the dialogues sometimes lost depth, and a film that aspires to a philosophical tone and a serious reflection on loneliness, love, and human connection occasionally displayed a kind of everyday roughness. At the same time, some dramatic moments were genuinely well executed, though there weren't enough of them to achieve full emotional richness.Certain narrative and thematic parallels with Interstellar, The Martian, and the South Korean The Moon are noticeable right away. Here too we see the motif of a hero's solitude in space and interaction with a robotic assistant, as well as the appearance of a sole surviving human who changes the course of events. Yet despite these conceptual similarities, Ty-Kosmos doesn't feel like a copy of Western or Asian films. Rather, it comes across as a sincere attempt by a Ukrainian director to explore this theme within our own context. And it's worth acknowledging that this attempt largely succeeds.Speaking of strengths, the unexpected plot twists deserve mention, they work honestly and emotionally. The visuals are impressive, some shots look so powerful they could easily grace any international production. The musical choices also add to the film's impact, especially the scene set to "Voyage, voyage," which creates one of the most dramatic moments in the entire story. The ending is so heartfelt and emotional that it brings the whole film together and leaves the viewer with a sense of depth, something often discussed in Ukrainian cinema but seldom realized.Despite its noticeable flaws, the film certainly doesn't deserve overly harsh criticism. It is sincere, bold, and in many ways unique. It demonstrates that Ukrainian cinema can confidently approach the space-drama genre without fear of comparison to major international productions. Ty-Kosmos is not perfect, but it is emotional, ambitious, and full of genuine creative intent. And for the director, it is truly a very strong and worthy debut.
