Promising Premise, Lazy Character Writing

Ulajh had everything going for it - premise, cast, scale - and still manages to waste it all. What begins as a promising diplomatic thriller quickly descends into lazy writing and hollow plotting.Janhvi Kapoor gives it her best shot, but her character Suhana makes so many illogical choices that it's impossible to root for her. Gulshan Devaiah starts strong, then gets lost in weak motivation and clumsy twists. The film keeps pretending to be intelligent when it's just explaining things in circles. Scenes drag, the stakes never feel real, and the supposed intrigue evaporates into cliché. Even the espionage setup feels half-baked, more soap than spycraft. You can sense the potential... buried under endless exposition and characters written like afterthoughts. By the end, Ulajh isn't a thriller; it's a test of patience. Slick on the surface, empty underneath.

Exciting stuff keeps one engaged

A young inexperienced and naive lady diplomat of the Indian foreign service joins the London office on a posting. She falls for a charming young man and has a whirlwind romance with him not realizing that that he has sinister intentions and that he is involved in an international conspiracy into which she is now dragged. All alone in this predicament she nevertheless fights back but things are not easy for her. There are lots of excitement situations for her.The movie is sufficiently engaging in parts . The first half keeps you hooked but the second half drags a bit. Director Sudhanshu Saria has done well with his " taking" and kept the tempo fast paced. One may find fault with certain technicalities in the official aspects shown but then they are not really glaring and what the heck, it is a Hindi movie meant for entertainment. Janhvi Kapoor certainly acts well specially when she has to express vulnerability and anxiety. Her scenes of panic attack are done well. Matching her is Gulshan Devaiah who gives a creditable performance. His cool demeanor, icy looks and measured dialogue delivery as the determined sharp shooter should fetch him roles. Roshan Mathew is impressive as her colleague.

Brilliant, tense thriller! !

I don't know about haters here(don't know what country they come from), but this movie turned out to be a total surprise package for me. It was awesome story, well scripted that was executed well. For those calling Jahnvi wood faced acting, it is her character in the movie that is dumb struck and shell shocked in the story going by what happens to her. What I also liked was the use of intense thriller soundtrack that gels well with the scenes and adds to it without being overdone or loud, something common in Hindi movies. I hope they keep making such intense thrillers which edge on espionage and politics. I loved every minute of this one.
