Typical Tsuburaya movie fare, nothing less nothing more

Did you see the Urutoraman Taiga vs. Dyna Vs. Ect. Etc. Etc. Etc. Movie? Well, this is the same exact thing, a crossover movie of several Urutoramen put hamfistedly together because crossover! We must sell the toys of the previous shows! And on and on and on. It had potential at the very start with the setup of the artificial intelligence keen on destroying worlds that thinks are dangerous bla bla bla bla (the same setup of my favourite of the Ultra series, Cosmos, if you haven't noticed it, but whatever it's Urutoraman we're speaking of) but then it completely losts itself with the overuse of other Urutoramen (I'm in a Super Sentai or in a Urutoraman show?!) and giant heroes/creatures that aren't even Urutoraman or Urutoraman looking (some look like an Iron Man knockoff more than anything) that make the concept of the main hero having problems because he tends to work alone (something present in past iterations in reference to the team of humans that used to help the titular hero) pointless and it simply gets boring the more time passes. Funny enough, even previous Urutoraman movies that I didn't particularly like (the Tiga one) were better than this one, at least it had a concept behind. Me liking that concept or not. Stick to the main Geed series and it should suffice.

What did I just watch?...

Right, well I know of Ultraman, but I just never gotten into it, as it seems like something well out of my range of interest. But as I happened to stumble upon the 2018 movie "Gekijôban Urutoraman Jîdo: Tsunagu ze! Negai!!" (aka "Ultraman Geed the Movie: Connect the Wishes!") here in 2022, I opted to sit down and watch it.

Not being in anyway familiar with the Ultraman universe, then writer Takao Nakano and director Koichi Sakamoto basically had an unpainted canvas here to impress and entertain me. So I sat down to watch this movie with an open mind.

It didn't take long, though, to realize that this movie was definitely not meant for me. I found everything in it extremely laughable and ridiculous. From the costumes and the design of the costumes, to the storyline and the fight scenes. I guess you have to be of a certain type to enjoy this kind of thing.

Needless to say that this 2018 movie didn't bring me any sense of entertainment or enjoyment. Nor did it spur an interest in me to want to explore the Ultraman universe and learn more about it, nor want to watch more of the movies or series.

I can only guess that this 2018 movie will have an appeal to fans of the Ultraman universe. But for a casual newcomer to the franchise, then this didn't cut it for me.

My rating of "Gekijôban Urutoraman Jîdo: Tsunagu ze! Negai!!" lands on a two out of ten stars.
