Generic sci-fi movie...

I didn't know about this movie existing prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2025. Since it was a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to watch the movie. And with the 2021 movie "War of the Worlds: Annihilation" not being a particularly great movie, then I have to say that I harbored zero expectations to this follow-up."War of the Worlds: Extinction" is a collaboration of The Asylum and Tubi, so it is not exactly a union that heralds stellar movie making, now is it?The storyline was generic, and to make matters worse it was a rather monotonous narrative. I am not saying that it necessarily was a bad storyline, but the pacing of the narrative was mindbogglingly slow and devoid of any thrills. I was never left on the edge of my seat. So writers Jacob Cooney, Marc Gottlieb, Molly Jacobs and Gil Luna didn't exactly bring anything extraordinary to the table. But at least it was better than the 2021 movie "War of the Worlds: Annihilation".There were a couple of familiar faces on the cast list, with the likes of William Baldwin, Michael Paré and Geoff Meed. The acting performances in the movie were fair, but nothing outstanding.The effects in the movie were actually surprisingly good for a movie from The Asylum and Tubi. Not jaw-droppingly impressive effects, mind you, but fair enough for what they was.The movie's cover is pretty terrible, especially since it makes William Baldwin look like Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man whom trapped his own daughter in his basement and had several babies with her. It was not a flattering cover for William Baldwin.My rating of director Christopher Ray's 2024 movie "War of the Worlds: Extinction" lands on a four out of ten stars.

You can only hope for Extinction

I did not watch the first "film" in this series and barely made it through this film. All I can compare it too is a Tom Baker Dr. Who adventure except that the Tom Baker episodes were more fun.William Baldwin barely phones in his performance on a landline. And he's the best actor in the bunch. The plot is typical: there is a device that can destroy the Earth but who will get to it first, Baldwin the alien general with a gigantic battlecruiser and army of three, or Earth general, Michael Pare, with his small battle pod and army of four which consists of his wife, two daughters, and one daughter's boyfriend. Money was not spent on cast for sure.Or will common sense prevail and all saved? No way am I giving away the ending. If I sat through this mess then so will you.I can only hope this wasn't conceived as a trilogy and we will be spared a third film. But who knows.This is featured as a TUBI original and as such the only cost is sitting through a bunch of commercials and most of us already know how to do that.I suppose if you must, you can view the earlier film War of the Worlds: Annihilation to get the bigger picture, and the prologue to the current film will make sense. Both films are on TUBI. And TUBI is better than PLEX as while they run fewer commercials until you approach the end of a film where commercials get bundled into packs of twelve running one right after the other.
