Plot summary

On March 25, 1996, the publicist Jan Philipp Reemtsma is kidnapped. His son Johann and his wife Ann Kathrin witness how their home is transformed overnight into a police control center. Two police officers, the family’s lawyer and a close friend form a community of fate, united by their common goal of bringing Johann’s father home as quickly and unharmed as possible.

Emotionally mature relatives dealing with crime

Directed by the renowned Hans-Christian Schmid, this movie draws an intense and realistic picture of close family members which have to deal with greedy kidnappers of the father of a wealthy family. Just because they try to stay sane and rational (neither cold nor distant), in the beginning still trusting in the profiency of the police, it does not mean that this makes the story boring. Not least because that crime really happened. As a translator (like that other poster before me) you might perceive the film at a different pace whilst working at the text, so yes, maybe "not much action" could become boring to you, but not to the regular viewer. This is actually not an action movie, but rather a study of emotionally mature people realising that police aren't any helpful at all and having to take things into their own hands. I found the performances of all actors very believable and can recommend this film. 8/10.

I couldn't believe this film

It is so boring I almost felt asleep while translating it.Family relationships and reactions are so fake, so are the police attempts to end this situation and free kidnaped man.Coldness of wife as well as son's lukewarm attempts to understand situation are so far from reality. Kid is 16 years old and should not be so obliviate in this situation.So it took me a lot of strength and willpower to finish it and make any sense of it.This was colossal waste of time but this is my work and should be your pleasure, so do something else, just don't waste your life on this movie, Victims od kidnaping didn't deserve that their story is told this way.
