Plot summary

Jaded detective John Verney is on the trail of an ancient cult of Plague Doctors which is cutting a bloody swathe through the London underworld. Dismissed by his superiors as gang on gang killings, the murders draw Verney into an obsessive maze of a secret society conspiracy with links to the Jack The Ripper murders of 1888, putting him and his family in grave danger.

Absence of Cinema

I just lost an hour and a half of my life. There are no actors, no directing, no script, and no real plot-just a hollow attempt at something that pretends to be a movie. What I watched felt like the absence of cinema rather than a film. It offers no story, no emotion, and no reason to stay engaged. This isn't experimental or artistic; it's simply empty, stretched far beyond what it can justify.

Accept it for what it is and enjoy it

From @shogunfilms, and @empire.studios.films, and from director Ben Foster comes the new slasher film from the indie film studio. This is "Dr. Plague" Starring @martinjkemp #peterwoodward and @jeaninenerissaFollowing the success of Helloween in 2025, Shogun are on a roll with a new British slasher film. Bringing us a new twist on a secret society linked to an old serial killer this is a really solid film with twists I didn't see.....and some I did....I'm a huge fan of Martin Kemp anyway so seeing him in the lead in a new film like this is an absolute pleasure. He is at his best cockney detective facing a villain he doesn't understand, and struggles to work out. Jeanine Sothcott is a staple of Shogun productions and she is never anything other than ideal for the parts she plays. She plays both sides of the coin, good and evil, equally well.On a personal level though seeing Peter Woodward was fantastic. I have long been a fan of his work and here he nails his role wonderfully. The whole cast does exactly what it needs to do, but seeing legends like David Yip and Gary Webster is a lot of fun having watched them a lot when I was younger.This is a low budget British horror and, at times, this is really obvious. Some of the effects are lacking the slick look that a bigger budget would have allowed for, but that's not something you should let put you off. For a film like this your expectations have to be set at the right level. If you accept that it isn't going to be a Hollywood budget, and that the filmmakers will make the absolute best of what they have, the you can sit back and enjoy the story for what it is, a solid slasher romp with twists and turns.Overall? I love the look of the villain and the overall lore of this film, and I appreciate what the filmmakers have done with the money they had. I enjoy the film and that's all I can ask. For me its getting a 7/10 and a recommendation to watch it and support indie film as much as possible.#indie #slasher #horror #filmmaking.
