A One-Man Masterclass in Storytelling

So let's just get straight into it because yo. I saw this gem at the American Black Film Festival, and honestly, based on the synopsis, I didn't know what to expect. But I figured, why not give it a shot? And when I tell you my mind was blown!.J. Alphonse Nicholson is a force. We already know he's a dope actor from his previous work, but seeing him carry a one-man show and embody five completely different characters? Insane. The transitions, the emotional depth, the physicality it was all next level. I'm an actress myself based in Kansas City, and a theater girlie through and through, so I deeply respect the craft. I can only imagine the emotional toll this kind of performance takes, especially doing it multiple times.Huge shoutout to the writer as well-this was such a unique, layered piece of work. Bold, creative, and important. I cannot wait until this is released. Congratulations to all involved.

AMAZING storytelling and Stunning Performance

Freight is a tour de force--the writing, acting, and directing are superb! Often, one-person-performances created for the stage and translate for the screen feel flat, like you missed the "real" performance and have to make do. NOT THIS ONE! The camera angles, soundscape, and acting make the experience feel dynamic, intimate, urgent, and profound. Freight starts in the early 20th century and concludes at the threshold of the 21st. The audience follows Able Green as he struggles to manifest his dreams and make his humanity known within a system that resists validating or making space for him. Still, Able keeps coming back and keeps working the puzzle, until he figures his way free. I've watch it twice, and plan to watch it again. Bravo!

Excellent writing and superb acting!

I loved this film so much! Freight is captivating, creative, and such a beautiful journey through time. The storytelling was fresh and powerful, and watching the five incarnations of Abel Green unfold was honestly mesmerizing. I can't wait to see more from J. Alphonse - this was extremely well done!
