This is a movie in a similar vein as Locke (2013), The Guilty (Den skyldige) (2018), Wheelman (2017) etc. Action takes place mostly off screen, and the protagonists are talking mostly on the phone. So, if you don't like this particular subgenre, you shouldn't watch this.I said "similar" and not the same vein, because HALLOW ROAD is not a typical thriller like the aforementioned movies. I won't say much in order to avoid spoilers, let's just say this is a mystery thriller. I liked it a lot, i was invested, there is top notch acting from Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys, i enjoyed it all the way through its ending. This is not a great movie, it won't stay with me but i didn't expect either something like that. It's a mystery/thriller movie and it was a fun ride, that's enough for me.There is a certain level of ambiguity in the ending and the explanations i read online was equally interesting as this movie, if not more. Truth be told, i was more confused when i read those interpretations but this was also a part of the fun and an extra reason i recommended this movie. In any case, you don't have to spend your free time if there's not, ending was definitely not annoyingly ambiguous, so if you like this sub-genre, you will enjoy this movie as well.

I am seeing this pattern of ending with nothingness with Babak Anvari's movies. Like the ending of Wounds this one was also full of confusion and questions. Wounds had the most shocking endings I ever saw. Not because of the story but because it is so sudden that you expect more but the movie is over.I can relate that to his style but that makes the movies anti climactic. So I learned that Anvari's movies are just fun to watch but have no expectation to satisfy my questions. I kinda feel that the endings are not well written. But thats just my opinion. As a Persian I am proud of what he is doing.Ps. The car speed compared to the tension of the movie was the most off thing about this movie.

Fun to watch but empty
