Armande, a broke, compulsive gambler who views life as one long coin toss, transports us to Brussels in "Heads or Fails." The Guit brothers portray her world with gritty love: emotions are exaggerated, apartments are small, and bodies are normal. With their anxious momentum and absurd set pieces, the film's best stretch plays, such as "Uncut Gems," smashed into a working-class Seinfeld episode. The plot may seem as aimless as Armande herself, and not every joke works, which will turn off viewers who prefer neat arcs. However, Maria Cavalier-Bazan's performance is what keeps it going; she is irritating, captivating, and unbearably identifiable. In terms of politics, the film nudges rather than lectures: gender, precarity, and messy urban survival are lived realities rather than hashtags. Ultimately, the gamble on chaos largely pays off.
