Do you have empathy?

As I've watched this movie, I felt like I could relate to it. Only in the essence of, letting your work take your life. Is Work more important than your life? Giving up a family, not knowing who to trust? Feeling like you've always done the right thing, as you work really hard. To have nobody around you. It makes me wonder if some people even watch the same movie I did, it takes perspective I guess. Well done by both Clooney and Sandler.

Not for everyone

It's painfully obvious that many reviewers failed to understand the premise of this movie. The main complaints seems to be that it is a self-indulgent ego trip. To that I say, yes you are right, but, that is the purpose of the movie. While myself and the great un-washed masses will never experience life as a movie star, this movie presents a depiction of a star who chooses a life of success and isolation instead of cultivating meaningful relationships. It's a choice that many people in other walks of life choose - success above all else. The cast, as one would expect, is excellent. Clooney is able to depict the isolation and loneliness without (mostly) succumbing to morbid pathos. At times, he brings the Clooney charn, but, in the end, the character can never escape the life he made for himself. Sandler is excellent as Ron his manager as are the supporting cast.At times, this movie had a vague feel of early 60's French cinema. I'm guessing this may be off putting to those who have been weaned on American film making. Also criticized was the pacing. I actually enjoy movies that lend themselves to a more languid pace and for directors who have the gumption to stick to it.Is this movie for all viewers? Hardly, but, if you care to get a peak behind the curtains of a man consumed by success, you just may enjoy Jay Kelly.

Some may think it slow, however...

Some movies are not for everyone. This film isn't really about an actor or his team of people. It's about choices. The choices we all make each day and each year that add up to our life.It feels like every middle to late middle aged person should relate to the characters in this film, even if they've made good choices (or ones they can live with). If only we could do it over again, I wonder how we'd all do?
