Mexican Superbad

As a whole, this family comedy-drama is a simple, yet, engaging and effective tale about family, coming-of-age, and 70s era time amongst a Mexican family.Fernando Eimbcke direction on the atmosphere, style, and family dynamics are pretty good. Eimbcke doesn't enforce cheesy tropes, but light-hearted, comedic, and dramatic elements amongst the atmosphere, character dynamics, and dialogue moments together. Alongside with colorful camerawork, presentation, and sound designs, the style and way of filmmaking does feel very 70s, which helps to bring the atmosphere to light. Eimbcke previously approaches similar themes in his other works like Duck Season, and Club Sandwich, which were not grand, but also solid works. Eimbcke does a better work on the direction here. The performances were pretty good. Gustavo Sanchez Parra was very good and alongside with the rest of the cast members. The characters are overall, alright. The characters offer some insightful family dynamics and shares between one another, and they felt humane, realistic, and engaging. At the same time, the movie does suffer some bad points. The writing could have been a little better. As certain points felt disconnected and predictable. Including some of the dialogue moments feeling a little bit clunky, and a bit weird.Overall, it's a good drama movie.
