Excellent movie

Yaya Decosta is brilliant in this movie as always. This is based on a true story of Monique Smith's search for her real family. This movie can be difficult to watch at parts, dealing with abuse and violence. The acting was top notch. Particularly, Yaya's character. She is obviously beautiful, but she is such an amazing actress. I remember her on Americas next top model. I love that she has been on so many great shows and movies. This is her best performance. I wish she could win an award for this! The actress who played her mother in this was also amazing!! Just a well acted cast all around.I felt her pain, determination and finally joy throughout the film. I am an avid lifetime movies watcher. This is my favorite film from Lifetime in awhile. Its one I will watch again. I highly recommend.

Well, it was good...

Another movie that I had never even heard about prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2025. And with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give it a fair chance.Now I am not sure if this movie is based on a real story or not, but I will say that writer Sylvia L. Jones put together a fair enough script and storyline. It certainly proved to be entertaining for what it was, though it can be a bit bleak at times.Not being familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, was actually something that proved in favor of the movie. Yeah, I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in the movie were good.Certainly a watchable movie, though hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing, as there simply isn't enough layers to the narrative.My rating of director Tailiah Breon's 2025 movie "Not My Family: The Monique Smith Story" lands on a six out of ten stars.
