A Crushing Disappointment

I was looking forward to this flick, as a good friend of mine was born and raised on the Isle of Skye where this was filmed, off the Scottish coast. Unfortunately, the flick itself (not to be confused with a "movie" which is engaging and entertaining is, as noted in the title of this review, a crushing disappointment. First, nothing much happens for the first hour of the flick. People argue, trundle around and waste time not entertaining us; even the delightful Scottish brogue of much of the cast doesn't help. Next, as good horror movies have shown us - from Nosferatu to Frankenstein to Alien - the Monster makes or breaks the material. Here the monster is an ill-defined afterthought...if any thought was given to it at all.Watch this movie - if you must - for the lovely scenery of the setting, but do not expect to be entertained beyond that.

Good movie

The movie I think maintains that atmosphere of restlessness and stress, which is expected for this type of movies. The mix with the legends, I think it gives another point. Maybe, noticed that the rhythm of the film was somewhat slow, but it is totally intentional, to stay attentive. On the other hand, Nicolette McKow, again plays an excellent role demonstrating that they have versatibility and, because not saying it, it is good to be 'the bad and rebellious girl'.In summary, it is a film that I think is well done, it is worth mentioning about the key places that the Skye Island gives that leads to make this type of films.

Skin crapper

I had to switch this off about 30 minutes in because it was as entertaining as chewing on uncooked pasta shells dry, awkward, and impossible to swallow. The acting is atrocious, straight out of a school play where everyone's trying way too hard. I can't recall the last film where I loathed every single character almost immediately; the leads come across as caricatures rather than people. The "little growl" moments and random splats of blood are laughably bad-zero-budget special effects that look like they were added in a university dorm room edit suite. What could have been an intriguing concept (a skin jacket mystery/horror set against the stark, atmospheric backdrop of Orkney) is completely ruined by massive overacting, no tension buildup whatsoever, and a script that feels half-baked.Trust me: this is like a promising student project that went off the rails and never recovered. Avoid like the plague-there are far better ways to spend your time. 2/10 (and that's generous for the scenery).
