Netflix, please release the ZERO COMMENTARY cut!

This would've been a lot more impactful if the commentary had been significantly reduced. There's one stretch of about 4-5 minutes where absolutely no one is talking (except Alex Honnold, i.e.) and the tension it induces is INSANE. Most of the piece plays out like a panel discussion, with bits and pieces of Alex's interviews and previous rock-climbing adventures added in. Instead, it should've purely focused on the task at hand, because that's what this is all about. The panellists (which also include WWE wrestler Seth Rollins and pro climber Emily Harrington) keep talking over Alex when he's on this extremely dangerous mission, interrupting him several times and asking for sound bites. I don't dislike the panelists but what point were they trying to drive home beyond the obvious? This is also what Free Solo tackled a lot better. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind how much of a daredevil Alex Honnold is, however. In roughly 91 minutes, his Taipei 101 ascent is every bit thrilling and awe-inspiring. The finale is also extremely heartwarming, with Sanni (Alex's wife) breathing a huge sigh of relief. Honnold's calmness, precision, and resilience warrant all the praise and require a separate study. I just hope a bunch of folks suddenly do not start following in his footsteps for the sake of internet validation and popularity. The funny thing is, even if you didn't watch this live (or know the outcome beforehand), there are moments where you'll feel incredibly anxious. For that alone, I'm awarding this 3.5 stars. Go Alex!

The annoying HOST!!!

The host was honestly so damn annoying. She completely broke my focus during Alex's beautiful act. I seriously don't understand why Netflix would even think of having a host during a daredevil performance like that. It made it so difficult to stay immersed in the visuals because of all the constant talking.I got so fed up that I ended up muting it and just watching the visuals while playing a Hans Zimmer playlist on my phone and honestly, that was way, way better than listening to the host yap non stop. That aside, massive congratulations to Alex. The guy is an absolute superhero. What he did was unreal.
