An Idiot Aboard, ITV style

So, one of ITV's Christmas commissions for 2025 was this TV special where Ant and Dec send Stephen Mulhern to places he doesn't want to go. Hmmmmm, that sounds familiar, doesn't it?And yes, I'm not the only person who noticed the similarities to An Idiot Aboard; in fact, I noticed the similarities straight away as soon as this was announced. And watching it myself, it's safe to say that it didn't disappoint me on that!Was there anything I remember from it? No, I don't. This special, in all honesty, was severely lacking! All I really remember from it was a part where Stephen touches a live octopus, and some surreal parts, as expected for anything Mulhern-related. None of the jokes were anything to write home about, and all in all, it just feels like ITV attempting to revive An Idiot Aboard but not knowing what made that show a cult classic. To be honest, I wonder what Karl Pilkington and Ricky Gervais thought of this?The only good thing, if I could think of one, was that Stephen, Ant, and Dec appear to have had a good time making it. It's not like it was a passion project or anything, but they must have seen something.In fact, I theorise on how this came to be. One day, the threesome watched An Idiot Aboard and thought they could do their own version. ITV commissioned it, and that's how Accidental Tourist came to be. Sure, that's likely not what happened, but its obviously that it could have been the case.Overall, this special was boring, bland, and forgettable. It's nowhere near as bad as the TikTok Top 100 2024 special from last year, but it's just another spit in the face of ITV's terrible Christmas schedules.

Brilliant

I have many of the same phobias as Stephen. The show was both funny and inspirational. I have a new respect for Mr Mulhern now, he tried everything despite his fears. It was a lot like An Idiot Abroad but Stephen was prepared to try everything without as much moaning! ? I'm hoping that they will all do a whole series of these, sending Stephen to all sorts of different places. I think a safari would be funny, I imagine there are a lot of things that he would be afraid of in Africa.

Victim humour is alive and well thanks to Ant and Dec.

A very poor imitation of an idiot abroad.Where the guest celebrity, Stephen Malhern, is challenged to do unpleasant tasks by Ant and Dec in what passes as entertainment.Cards on the table I think Ant and Dec are so overated and have made a very good living and carer out of himiliating others in the name of entertainment.Not for me.
