Misery

Sure, without knowing what I was in for here, as I sat down to watch the 2025 thriller "The Follower", I opted to watch the movie as it was a movie that I had neither heard about nor actually watched before.Writers Marques Houston and Chris Stokes put together a pretty straightforward script and storyline. While the movie proved to be entertaining and enjoyable, it was a rather formulaic and generic script, that didn't really offer much of anything new or innovative to the thriller genre, and more specifically the type of thriller where some deranged person keeps someone restrained against their will given their fandom. In a sense "The Follower" has a lot of similarities to the 1990 movie "Misery".I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, which was actually a good thing. I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in the movie were good."The Follower" was an entertaining movie, however I doubt it is a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time, as there isn't enough layers and contents in the narrative to support more than a single viewing.My rating of director Chris Stokes's 2025 thriller "The Follower" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Almost comedic copy of Misery

Chris Stokes' movies are all pretty much recycled plots of popular movies like Fatal Attraction (Only For One Night, Vicious Affair), Mikey and The Good Son (Adopted), Sleeping With the Enemy (Til Death Do Us Part), The Stepfather (The Stepmother), Fame (Howard High), etc with majority POC casts. This latest one was no different from the others and an obvious rip of Misery (right down to the kidnapper being a nurse and wanting the kidnapped/trapped person to make art for/about her) but of course executed poorly. The girl is psycho from the jump, with no depth and barely any background given to her character. The lead is a bland popstar you can barely feel for, only on the basis of him being nice to his crew and GF but that's it, he's boring and his music isn't even that good. Actually, like most of these movies, these characters are basically just tropes, surface level and never truly written deeply. Marques Houston is a performer not a script writer. Also the directing/cinematography like most of Stokes' films is more like for a music video than a movie.My rating is only as high as it is cause the part where she came out in the Marine uniform was hilarious. You couldn't ell me that wasn't intentionally meant to be outrageous. Overall, what it's got going for it is that it's funny in spots and so bad it's good, like most of the Stokes movies which is why I continue to watch.
