Plot summary

FADE IN: The open ocean, 1974. Filming is delayed…again. The lead actors—theatre veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider—are crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows, egos collide, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic…if it doesn’t sink them all.

Live filming of an interesting, quirky, shouty drama play for fans of "Jaws"

Not really a movie, quirky drama "The Shark Is Broken" is a filmed three-actor play with one set (the boat from 1975 blockbuster "Jaws") & a live audience. With its 'shark' always malfunctioning the key "Jaws" actors (Roy Schneider (Dan Fredenburgh), Richard Dreyfuss (Ashley Margolis), & Robert Shaw (Ian Shaw)) hang out, exposing their contrasting characters. Simply directed by debutant Martha Geelan it relies on the script (offering some decent insights doubtless relayed by Robert Shaw to son Ian (who co-wrote it with Joseph Nixon - a first 'screenplay' for both)) and the performances (which are rather shouty - especially Shaw). Interesting, but really only for hardcore "Jaws" fans.

Real Review. not the obligatory first comment from some one from the production

Great as a play presentation. Great as an SNL sketch that went to long and dramatic with the wrong british actor playing a New Yorker(like Jude Law trying to do Al Pacino ) and Rob Schnider as Dryfus (with unneeded giggle ending lines) and a light laugh track Just watch, get High and enjoy.... I did.. definatly not a waste of time thoroughly enjoyable.

Enjoyable but not exactly action packed

I really liked this. As a fan of the movie, seeing this almost made me feel like I was a fly in the wall. It's definitely a filmed stage production so don't expect a lot of action or special effects, pretty much because it's not needed. Also, because that's not what this is about. It's about three guys sitting in a boat cabin sharing their stories, what being an actor is like, their takes in the movie, what it's about and giving each other some grief, for lack of anything better to do. Ian Shaw fairly channels his father in a way that is both endearing and sometimes chilling. Ashley Margolis does a good job of Dreyfuss and Dan Fredenburgh does a solid job as Roy Scheider. The humor is front and center with the banter being one of the highlights of the show.If you enjoy a good stage production, this will definitely make you happy. I'm not so much outside of a good Noël Coward and the like but I did enjoy this very much. Maybe that's why I liked it? Either way, it's worth watching, especially if you're a fan of the film, like me.
