Ever want to see a bear on a boat?

Mexican jungle bears...

Alrighty, well the movie's title alone was more than sufficient to make me stop and take notice. And given the movie's title and the promise of a cheesy viewing experience, of course I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch what writer and director Eduardo Castrillo had to offer with this 2025 movie. It was a pretty straightforward script and storyline from writer Eduardo Castrillo, but also generic and bland. This was by no means a gem in the history of killer animal cinema. With not even a single actor or actress on the cast list that were familiar, I have to say that the acting performances were not overly great. Some were fair, while others were wooden, rigid and rather laughable. The special effects in "Bears on a Ship" were exactly that - special. Trust me, the effects in this movie are low key and pretty bad. This was an ambitious low budget production, no doubt about that. Hardly a movie that I would recommend though, and not a movie that I will ever sit down to watch a second time. "Bears on a Ship" was a bad movie, and not bad enough to actually be funny and enjoyable. The movie's cover was actually the best thing about the ordeal. My rating of writer and director Eduardo Castrillo's 2025 movie "Bears on a Ship" lands on a two out of ten stars.

Where are the bears?

You might expect to see some bears in a movie titled "Bears on a Ship," but you'd be mistaken. I realize that it's common to limit how often or how completely you see the monster in monster horror, but you almost always get a good view at some point in the movie. Not so with "Bears on a Ship." The best you get is a CGI outline of a bear in a extremely dimly lit corridor. If you squint, you can, kind of, make out a face. This "special" effect lasts about 2 second during which the "bear" scarcely moves. Apart from that, you get a scene of a glove made to look like a bear paw and a very brief shot of someone wearing the bottom half of a bear suit ungracefully climbing steps. I guess you could say that the bears are bearly visible...Combine the lack of bears with a huge cast that includes one of every horror movie stereotype and you get a mess of a movie.Maybe the RiffTrax crew can make this enjoyable. I hate to hate on crowd sourced art, but Bliss Zin and the other donors deserve much more for their money.
