Watch And Learn, Hallmark!

Usually, when it's about Christmas romances, I'm a Hallmark person. The guys have lots of movies to offer, and usually a major part of those resonate with me one way or another. That means that I don't feel like I need to check out the other channels' stuff. 2025, though, was a year when Hallmark seriously let me down. I believe, only a couple of movies I seriously enjoyed, with a couple of others feeling fine. The rest? Totally disappointing. So, I started picking up stuff from others randomly and, well, here we are, with OWN's Fake Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. And you know what? It's exactly what I've looked for. The chemistry's there, the heartwarming aftertaste is there, the characters are likeable and don't feel like nobodies, the motif is interesting enough to make an excuse for "yet another Christmas romance"... Loved every minute of it.Word of a warning, though. Don't expect it to be "the real deal." I mean, it is the real deal, but it's one of THOSE movies. Cheap romances are not for everybody, and Christmas versions of those? Those can feel like a torture for lots and lots of people. And there's nothing wrong with that; it's all about the taste. Weird comparison, but it's like with liquorice candies. Lots and lots of people hate those with passion. But when you love them? Those are very special to you.Christmas romances are exactly like that too. Those are not even supposed to be high-quality movies. People who love them don't need them to be. We can deal with cheap, we can deal with the unoriginal / re-used tropes, that's not what is important. What's important is... Well, I already mentioned it above. A spark of warm happiness in the middle of a cold, cold winter. The story of a clumsy girl and a stranger in a coma? It does the job perfectly. Would instantly trade most of the stuff Hallmark offered in 2025 for this. I guess, it says something.
