Suprisingly Sincere

This was a suprising watch. It starts cheesy, but actually goes through some complex storylines as these teens work through figuring themselves out. It's good at both the romance and the coming of age aspects. It treats the character with kindness, lending emotional weight to their decisions. I genuinely cared for both characters, their futures, and them growing into themselves. I could very well see myself watching this again.

Better than I expected. Rated on a rom-com curve

I only became aware of this movie from an email suggesting what to watch tonight. I never watch the "TUBI" app and this is a TUBI original. So I had low expectations.But I was pleasantly surprised. The 2 young leads were unknown to me but effective. Asher Angel wasn't just a buff guy with enviable abs, he was convincing as Sean, a straight arrow somewhat socially inept high school senior with dreams of going to MIT.The impression most people will have of Paris Bereic, who plays Flora, the social influencer daughter of high achieving parents, is that she's a brunette Sydney Sweeney. But once you get past her obvious and prominently displayed physical attributes, you'll find an equally effective actress and a very likable character.It was also refreshing to watch a high school movie with only one truly villainous character and his third big villainous act was more one of cruel timing (the mom's birthday party than the fact of his disclosure of a Big Secret.Still, even though it's ridiculous to criticize movies in this genre for being predictable, the Big Conflict was foreshadowed with the blinkiest of blinking neon signs. And the deception premise (the deal Sean made), made it increasingly hard to root fir him.But overall it was a decent high school romance.I did deduct a star because of Sean's decision (or the director's decision) to wear a soft white sleeveless vest at the end. It nearly ruined a lovely scene.
