Probably Her Weakest Special So Far

Middle of the road

I feel strange about this special. So for context, I think Taylor Tomlinson is a really strong comedian - I think her writing, physical humour, crowd work and pacing is typically really great and I will continue to watch what she comes out with next. This one just didn't hit for me? That's why I gave it a 5. The content is fine? But also not nearly as creative or insightful as it could be or has been in the past? I'm taking the middle of the road because I can see why people might really enjoy it but I also felt like some of the jokes for me went past "edgy" territory into a place I almost felt more "bad" for her than laughing along with her. Kind of like when someone is sharing a story and you think to yourself, "oh, you need to go to therapy to sort some of this out" it was a strange feeling watching it. Interested to read what others think to see if I'm off-base with thinking this! And I sincerely hope others found it more enjoyable than I did! I'll certainly still watch her next special and will look forward to what she comes up with next but probably won't revisit this one.

Gay stuff. God stuff

Ok first off if this is your first experience with Taylor Tomlinson's standup then I can understand why you might not like it. It is by no means her best. It also deals heavily with her coming out as bisexual and her coming to terms being an agnostic that grew up in a religious household. Both are dealt with with her usual humor and charm. She is a female comic so slot of her jokes deal with her experience dating men while also being an incredible bad girlfriend herself. If talking about God, dating abd sex is not your idea of humor then you really should find a different comic. But Taylor Tomlinson is extremely funny and is worth watching but I would start with her early works also on Netflix. Quarter Life Crisis, Look at You, and Have it All. It is interesting to watch her standup evolve over the years as she herself grows up and finds herself.
