Horror Anthology with more misses than hits

Horror is my favorite genre. I enjoy anthologies such as V/H/S and this is definitely not great anthology.Do not get discouraged by the terrible "packaging". The whole poetry and narration at the beginning and in between the shorts that make the anthology is "crypt keeper wannabe" but it significantly misses the mark. The animation does not help either. I am not sure fi they are going to have a Volume 2, but I really hope they either improve on this or ditch it altogether. The shorts though, some are better than others. The plots are very straight forward, and they are shot competently. Nothing spectacular in terms of effects, composition, acting, nor story.First one is actually solid, a bowling man willing to go the extra mile for a better game. Style and good performances too.Next few are fluff at best. Some are quite bad. Couple buying pills in the dark, woman who receives a doll as a gift from a dead friend, last patron in the bar, couple trying to conceive at any cost, all feel put together by necessity, not passion.A woman and her dog fight an invisible force, that one is not bad.I see some potential here, and definitely room for improvement for the next volume (again, if there is one).

It was a fair attempt at a horror anthology...

Now, while I do have a general aversion towards horror anthologies, as the vast majority of them tends to be utter rubbish, I still dabble in them every now and again. And thus, I opted to check out the 2025 horror anthology "Terror Tales: Poetry & Death Volume 1", as I was given the chance here in 2025. Truth be told, however, I had zero expectations to it.The first segment, titled "Bowlhead, was actually pretty good. It was a nicely written storyline, albeit short of course, but writer and director Thomas Simon managed to put together a rather interesting, if not disturbing, storyline here. I enjoyed this one, so the anthology was off to a good start.Segment number two is titled "Friends Forever", and it is written and directed by Ian Kyle. While it was watchable, it just wasn't particularly impressive. The narrative ended before it even got started, so I was left sitting with a sense of "What? Was that really it?!"On to the third segment, which is titled "Puzzle Box: The Glitch", and is written by Chris Campo and Jack Dignan, with the latter also directing the segment. I have to say that something that is shot in the dead of night, in pitch black darkness, and with night-vision camera function just doesn't work for me. It never has, not even in other movies, and it never will, so it didn't play out in favor of the segment here in my opinion. This was the least enjoyable of the segments. The fourth segment is titled "The Reclaimers", and it is written and directed by Jason Sheedy. It certainly was an intense narrative, but it just made little sense. And then there was the fifth segment, titled "Janelle's Baby", written and directed by Michael Squid. This was a bit too short in my opinion, especially since there was so much disturbing material to be delved into here. The effects in this segment were good. The sixth segment, "Goodnight" written by Michael Clark and directed by Frank Merle. This was not a particularly outstanding story, and just sort of felt like a filler. But at least it was better than "Puzzle Box: The Glitch".The acting performances in the segments were good. I do believe that I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress, which certainly spoke in favor of the anthology, as I do enjoy watching new talents on the screen.Well, this was actually not an entirely bad horror anthology, but at the same time it wasn't an outstanding one either. It was watchable and entertaining, for sure, but hardly something that left a lasting impression on me. There are far, far worse horror anthologies out there. If you enjoy horror anthologies, then check out "Terror Tales: Poetry & Death Volume 1", it might be something for you.My rating of the 2025 horror anthology "Terror Tales: Poetry & Death Volume 1" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Not the worst I've ever seen

Had to see it for myself because it had a 8.7 but only had 9 votes. The intro was tedious and long so that was a bad omen... All the intervals follow this stretched boring format and feels like filler more than anything else. The first story about a bowler is strange and the antagonist is creepy, but they've left out the best parts.Friends forever, the idea was santeria and that was about it.Puzzle box: the glitch, imagine the Blair witch being your dealer and giving you drugs that make you glitch through time? The reclaimers a woman returning to the house where her grandparents were slaughtered in a dystopian future setting with invisible predators. The message is being a junkie is like fighting invisible demons or something.Good acting by the cute dog.Janelle's baby... The sound editing was abominable making it seem like a bad re-dub job so that through me off throughout. If you can't conceive you can make a baby from spare parts.Goodnight; a pushy customer walks into a bar in a vampire ridden city and chats with the bartender.Poorly executed nice ideas, 5 out of 10 stars, because I'm feeling generous ;) Although somehow I hope some of the stories will be remade with a better budget and longer runtime!
