QUE UP THE SONG LOVE POTION NUMBER 9

Naomi (Amy Groening) and Marcus (Evan Roderick) are best friends and coworkers, serving drinks and food at a local bar. However, the owner is ready to sell, and Naomi and Marcus aren't sure what to do. When Naomi suggests buying the bar themselves, the pair decides to enter a mocktail-making competition and if they win, they will use the cash prize to buy the bar. Things become complicated after Naomi accepts mysterious liquid flavors from a mysterious stranger and winds up dosing some of their friends and customers, including Marcus with a love potion. Marcus confesses that he has always been secretly in love with Naomi, but she doesn't know whether his love is real, or whether its the love potion doing the talking. Together they work on mysterious clues the mysterious stranger gives them which will create an antidote to give to their love sick friends/customers. Will the antidote work, and what will be the reaction to those who thought they were in love? Will Naomi and Marcus win the contest? While Hallmark has done fantasies before, but this one is a little different which makes it interesting. Groening and Roderick are well cast and have good chemistry. However, the problem is the pace of the story slows down and starts to drag, and the ending is well, "Hallmark predictable". The movie was okay; it needed some fine-tuning to truly make it a winner.

This movie made me smile...

Unlike so many Hallmark type movies, this movie made me smile...and even giggle a little. I was into the characters from the get-go & it maintained my interest throughout. I bought into the magic subplot as well as the mythology as the story developed. Corny? A bit. Cheesy? Yup. 100% Believable? Not really. Fun? Absolutely!
